Just bought a set of Hogan PC7s... Oops, they're actually PC5s.

My love for Hogan irons keeps on growing, and I couldn't help myself from buying a set of PC7s from eBay today. I'm planning on doing as complete a refurb on them as I can. Anyone played them? How do they compare to other Hogans from that era?

I mistook them for PC5s.

I have a set of the PC5's,the ones with the 3" hosel.   I'm assuming yours have the 2.5" hosel.  It also looks like they have 2 rings of crimping on the hosel, mine only have one.   These are Hogan blade on blade design at it's best.    I only played them once, and they were very rewarding to hit.   I must have been having a good ball striking day because I don't remember a single strike that stung my hands.  The good ones felt like there was no ball at all.

Look like fun.  I didn’t realize there was a PC7, I thought it went PC5 to Bounce Sole +1.   I had a set of Bounce Sole +1’s two seasons ago that were really nice to play.  Never played the PC5 or 7 though.

I don't have them here yet. I assumed PC7s based on the toe shape which is more rounded than the PC5. When they arrive I'll be able to examine them more closely.

To be honest, I didn't either. It was a trawl through Google that led me to an old thread here with the info. Hosel length and toe shape are the defining differences. 

 

You can definitely see the progression to Bounce Soles can't you?

Here is a picture of the hosel on my PC5 for comparison purposes.  I'm assuming you measure hosel length the same way you do shaft length?  They must not have sold many of the PC7's, the picture that you posted might be the only one on the internet.  That definitely makes them worth a full refurb.  Looking forward to seeing some pictures when you're finished.

They finally arrived and they are PC5s.

Is that based on hosel length?  Do they have the double crimping on the hosel?  It's possible that they are PC7's and the information that we have about hosel length wasn't correct.

I was looking through files that I've downloaded from this site and found this ad for PC7's.  Wish I could remember who originally posted it.    It does reference a shorter hosel and shows a single ring of crimping.

They're the Slazenger version and they have double crimping. Yes, I based it on hosel length.

I actually use a set of foam pads for car polishing on a drill. Works great and allows me to be portable, so I can work inside or out.
