Louisville Golf Niblicks

I picked up these two Niblicks at Goodwill as part of my Saturday haul. I've seen them on the website, and seen them in the How Its Made video, and I've always been a bit curious. The good news, these are in good shape, they don't look like they have been hit much; the bad news is that they have regular shafts in them, so I need to figure out what to do. My inclination is to hit them with the regular shafts in the spring and then decide if I want to re-shaft them after than. They look slightly closed, so I'm hoping that, combined with the regular shafts, they aren't hook machines. 

 

If I do re-shaft, I don't think I'll find the right size 2 wood shaft, and I don't have any in my inventory past a green band Rocket, so I'll either have to put in a 3 wood shaft and extend a half inch or put in a driver shaft, which I would probably keep full length. Has any one here have an opinion on stretching a 3 wood shaft vs. putting in a driver shaft? I haven't done either. 

 

And finally, has anyone hit one of these before, and if so, what is your impression vs. what I'm used to, mostly 693/M75 fairway woods? Also, has anyone hit the 2 wood, which seems like an interesting club for this design. If the sole is designed to get the ball up faster, it seems like this club might be nice off the deck to rip on par 5s, and that would make it a cool club to have in the quiver.

Nice find.  I had a set of them, 3 and 5 woods, that I reshafted this spring and tried out.   They are quality clubs for sure but while I found them good out of the rough they not great off fairway lies.  I much prefer my Orlimar Diamond woods which are like the Cobra Baffler with 3 rails on the bottom.

 

The Niblicks do hit the ball high though if that is something you are looking.

Its a Goodwill find, so they just fell in my lap. Sounds like the three wood would go to high since I hit my 693 3 wood just right. But the 2, maybe the extra height would be good.

I may be mistaken, but weren't these .335" bored?

Great goodwill find!  Those would sell for $100 a piece easily on eBay.  I found a new 7 wood head last year and had david bass shaft it up for me.  Only tried it once so far.   I used a ginty for many years back in the early and mid 1980’s.  Loved it then.
