Electric Trolley Reliability

Recommended Posts

I know there are plenty of threads on this topic. A friend of mine showed up in the fall with a Bat-Caddy. It really got me thinking as some of my regular courses are a killer for my push cart. And the worst hills always seem to be on the last few finishing holes! After reading any and all reviews I can find, I am concerned about the reliability. I have narrowed it down to Bat-Caddy or MGI. I find most of the reviews fall into two categories, A) absolutely love the cart. And most of these are guys who have used the cart for 2 or less rounds. The ones I don't even bother with are the ones where they have tried it out in their driveway or back yard. Not even 9 holes on the course. And B) absolute horror stories about lack of support and warranty coverage. It seems that repair issues even under warranty can take weeks or more to resolve. And then often the replacement parts are shipped to you and you have to do the repairs usually via You Tube. Shipping back to manufacturer can cost you hundreds of dollars. It just seems like a big hit or miss purchase when you are spending $1,000+ for these carts.

Got a Bat-Caddy last season. Great golf purchase. Only thing missing is a console to put stuff in. Everything you need to carry need to be in your bag. Their console add-on is pretty worthless. The drink holder is only really for a can of something. Anything taller will keep hitting the upright. Lithium lasts 36 holes, easily. Only get a lithium battery. The regular motorcycle battery they offer is heavy and doesn't last as long.

The local favorite around here is Kangaroo. Their customer support is good.

That’s what I have. I store it at my club, but it’s very heavy, and it bit of a pain if you have to haul it, and put it together every time you play.

Heavy is right? But, built like a tank. Mine is 2004 non-remote and Rita's is a 2014 w/remote. Both stored in the club's cart barn. I wouldn't recommend the classic Kangaroo to anyone who planned to haul it around. Kangaroo has a modern lighter model meant to go in the trunk, but no one has one at my club in Asheville.

Knowledge of the Rules is part of the applied skill set which a player must use to play competitive golf.

Thanks guys but Kangaroo is not an option as I am a publix player and will be transporting in my truck.

One guy I used to play with had a Cart Tek. They make remote, and hands on models. If I hadn’t got the Kangaroo, that’s the brand I would have bought. Sometimes I wish I had bought the Cart Tek rather than the Kangaroo.

I’ve had a motocaddy S1 DHC four four years - about 250 rounds - and have never had an issue - picked up an old junker “intermittent, maybe not working” motocaddy S3 pro, found a “reasonable” new lithium battery - after some grease ( Elbow and/or lubricant) and that one was quickly resurrected. So can’t say anything bad about motocaddy reliability and/or ability to fix - parts reasonably available, as well when stuff goes wrong.
