Received Skytrak Friday, but have questions

I received my Skytrak Friday and have it just linked to my iPad for hitting balls on the range. I have read so many threads over the past two days my mind is ready to explode. I’m not sure how far I’m going to go with this, but I’m confused on the Simulator part, if someone can answer this.

1. Can I or can’t I play Simulator golf by just hitting ball into my Net Return Pro then either look at iPad or TV monitor to see ball flight. I’m not sure I want to invest in screen, projector.

2. Does anyone else have a Tour Strike mat? If so do you have it on concrete or do you have padding underneath it. I just have mine on the garage floor and feel like it’s very hard on the body. I can go to any of the local big box stores and hit off those mats and not have any issue, I would assume those mats are cheaper than the Tour Strike.

3. Do I have to get a gaming PC?

1. Yes you can.  A screen and projector is not necessary

2. You can hit off the concrete, but typically most place it over some sort of platform.  Maybe try that puzzle exercise mat (foam) in 0.5" thickness

3. A decent computer would be needed if you wanted to render the simulation graphics "smoothly" on to something like the TV.  From what I can tell, the video card (GPU) and processor (CPU) need to be of certain specs.  See the minimum for running TGC2019 (for instance)

Driver: Cobra LTDxLS @ 9º (8.25º) w/ Fujikura Speeder TR 661s

Fairway: Callaway Mavrik 4W @ 16º w/ ProjectX Evenflow Black 70s

Hybrid: Sub70 939x 4H @ 21º w/ ProjectX Black Hybrid 6.0

Irons: Artisan HC 4/5 w/ Steelfiber i95cw Stiff; 6-PW w/ Steelfiber i110cw Stiff

Wedges: Artisan Raw 51º, 56º, 61º w/ Modus 120s (to  be re-shafted with Steelfibers to match irons)

Putter: Artisan 0318 Deep Milled

Yes, you can just hit into the net.

As for a gaming PC, just make sure the specs match up. Looking at the specs, they're not too taxing. The computer I'm typing this on would easily handle TGC and I didn't get it for gaming specifically. Just make sure if you decide to go down the route of using a PC, that your components are fine.

I have a net return with the screen.  You can definitely play without a projector, and then later if you decide you want to invest in the screen and a projector, it's an easy upgrade.  I really like the screen that comes for the net return.  It's not quite flat like some of the fancy looking installs, but ball does still come back well which I think makes for a better experience.  I don't have to stop to collect balls ever which is nice.

So I was just looking at packages, am I seeing this right if I want to be able to have friends over to play with TGC2019 that I will then need a gaming PC? I thought I could play by running it on the iPad or TV. WGT is for one player only.

I think you can run the skytrak program on an ipad, but to play TGC2019, you need (https://www.skytrakgolf.com/simulation/the-golf-club-2019 )

System Requirements

Minimum:

OS: Windows 7 64 bit, Windows 8 64 bit, Windows 10 64 bit
Processor: Intel Core i5-760 @ 2.80GHz or equivalent
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: NVidia GTX 670 or equivalent
DirectX: Version 11
Network: Broadband Internet connection
Hard Drive: 30 GB available space
Sound Card: DirectX 11 compatible

Recommended:

OS: Windows 10 64Bit
Processor: Intel Core i7 @ 3.20GHz or equivalent
Memory: 8 GB RAM
Graphics: NVidia GTX 1060 (or better), for 4K NVidia GTX 1080 (or better)
DirectX: Version 11
Network: Broadband Internet connection
Hard Drive: 30 GB available space
Sound Card: DirectX 11 compatible

I don't know where you live but I'd advise you to check second hand sites first. You can get a full hd recommended graphics pc for around 400-500 dollars if you find components used. Right now it isn't a very good time to build a pc though, as components are in short supply and prices up (at least in Europe). I wouldn't recommend buying a package PC (one that is branded).

And definitely don't get a laptop unless you really need the portability or are planning to use it for something else.

They have zero upgradability and cost more than a tower.

It's been the same here since COVID began. Components have been harder to get at a good good price

I was wondering if anyone could help with two things.

When playing WGT on iPad how do I quit a game if I want to. All I see is restart round?

I have true strike mat on some foam exercise flooring, but my friend and I realized that it moves quite a bit, any suggestions on to get to stay in place. Is there a different mat I should look at.

I don't know anything about WGT, but as far as the mat moving you'll definitely want it anchored. My hitting strip (fiberbuilt) is placed in a cut out I DYI'd on my stance mat. The stance mat is huge, 5' x 10' for both lefties and righties. It weighs like 60+ lbs and even that thing will slide around slightly over time (though that is mostly because it was a quarter inch shorter than my fiberbuilt strip, so I built it up with carpet padding that doesn't grip so well to the hardwood underneath). I framed the corners of the stance mat with spare pieces of the hardwood flooring I had lying around.

I don't know if you're talking about a full sized mat or just the hitting strip moving, but you could try something like that. Maybe just make a cut out in the foam? Heck even some double sided carpet tape to the foam itself might do the trick, unless its the foam that's doing the sliding.. not sure if it'd stick to concrete.

[edit] snapped a picture for ya so you catch my drift

Mines the whole mat that is sliding, that’s nice set you have. Any other pictures of the whole thing. What sim are you using @Celeras

I have a GC2 with TGC2019, GSPro, and an old fr1 dongle I don't really ever use anymore. Used to have a SkyTrak as well.
