Longer shaft putters

I used to have a couple of putters I added quite a bit of length to the shaft but that was so long ago, I have forgotten any design specs. Also have been on long hiatus of several years. Would a place like Edwin Watts even have putters with long shafts? Are those that anchor in the chest even legal these days?

 

Other than that type of putter, I also had a putter one time that I made much taller than 'standard' (35"?) and I anchored it against my left forearm so that, theoretically, the left arm/wrist would not break down. Had a split grip or either a very long grip, I don't recall. Might want to do one like that.

 

I don't have any idea what to tell a club repairman. Maybe he will have some ideas. Back when I did this, I was so into golf and around golfers and I was up on the specs and knew how to describe what I wanted.

The newer, currently legal, long shafted putters are what's known as "armlock" putters and would be at a place like Edwin Watts. It almost sounds like you were messing around with an armlock style way back in the day. You can find them everywhere now, very popular.

 

Anchoring to the chest or stomach is no longer allowed though

One nice thing about current armlock putters is that loft and lie are setup really well to work for a putting style like that, where before you may have just been guessing at best

You can't anchor on the chest or belly anymore. You can anchor on the arm but no more than the elbow crease. 

 

Also depends what you want to do, are you going to broomstick like Adam Scott? Go longer and choke down like Hovland in a counter balance style. Armlock like Bryson, Simpson, Zalatoris. Do a modified arm lock with the Evnroll Mid-Lock or just go with a longer putter? 

 

I think looking at those you could narrow down what you want to do and tell the guy how you want it built. 

 

If you go armlock just buy an armlock putter due to the loft on the head. Broomstick like belly putting you'll need a heavier head, counter balanced and mid-lock anything 350g+ should work fine.

So, does Adam Scott putt without anchoring, touching his chest? The guys with the long putters, it looks like anchoring but I guess they are not.

He doesn't anchor, but holds the putter high in front of his chest.
