Semi Annual Cortisone Fix

Anyone else have an orthopedist as their primary physician?

Just got back from my semi-annual cortisone session w/ the doc. Seemed a good time to get it over with, as there's 4" of snow covering the courses and driving ranges.... and, more importantly, the range-ball machine is finally empty.

As usual, doc gave me his "take it easy speech", suggesting that I slow down a bit and start hitting the ball like a fifty-something, rather than a thirty-something. He of course knows by this time that I won't, but feels compelled to provide me with some sense that he's actually earning all of his $340.00 fee.

It's a bit comical, but I can almost tell by the shape of my shots, on-course, when its time to call.... "young doctor feel good". It begins with my leaving the ball out to the right, first w/ the long irons and then creeping all of the way down into my wedges. This is then followed by an insidious foreshortening of my left arm. Hell, this noticable inability to fully extend my right arm becomes so pronounced, that when I put both arms out in front of me, it almost looks like a capital letter D. The bright side, as all things have a bright side, is that the doc has stopped using those 15-gauge needles and gone down to something in the 16 to 18 gauge range.... a little less recovery time ya know.

For now, I guess it's indoor putting and chipping and two or three days w/ the "physio", getting the extension back. By then, let's hope that at least the range-ball machines get refilled...........

My PCP is not a orthopedist but ive had more ortho injuries that i care to remember , i have had 1 cortisone injection into a injured knee and it will be the last time as i had more pain and problems with the knee due to the injection than i had prior to the injection , i will take a good narcotic and suffer if i have to , this is not to discourage anyone else to having this done but it just did not work for me !!

MRI on my right shoulder @ 8:00 a.m. in the morning. Having some sort of issue with my rotator cuff. Perfect, at the beginning of the year with no deductible met, cost: $475 out of pocket.
