Interesting link. But no, I'd never consider personally. Prices seem inflated even accounting for exchange rates and who knows about shipping and transit times these days. An interesting read indeed but I guess I'm just too old to deal with all of the current trade complications!

I know about shipping and transit times these days.

I've done the buying-from-japan thing twice now.

First time around I got a set of PRGR CT533 irons and a set of J's Professional Weapon (almost mint!) and had them sent via FedEx to Canada. Cost just shy of 300 CAD all in after taxes and duties, buyers fees, domestic shipping within Japan to a forwarding warehouse, etc. This was last year.

Fast forward to this year and I had a few fairway wood and driver heads, a set of Eye2 irons in BeCu, and some Japanese Spalding irons sent here. The forwarder I used changed their shipping methods and it ended up costing me 3x the shipping.

Realistically, getting your clubs from Japan isn't worth the hassle unless you're getting something that's impossible to get elsewhere (like my Spaldings, that can't be found on Google even) or that is such a good deal you can't pass it up. Shipping rates depend quite heavily on how things are packaged when we're talking about clubs.

Nice, I've done it before and the shipping wasnt that bad but then I got hit with custom's fees also after.  Item's came quick and very nicely packed.  I already won 6 sets of irons a driver and a bunch of grips.  Figure if I'm gonna make one purchase I might as well go all out.  The prices were too good to be true.  Ebay is oversaturated to its hard to find any good deals.  Might get crushed on shipping I'll let you know.

$900 CAD for shipping? That's insane.

Let me clarify -- the 300$ ticket the first time was the all-in price, clubs included. Shipping and duties made up roughly 120$. Second time around it was closer to 300$. Ballpark numbers here, also keep in mind those figures include domestic shipping within Japan to move to a warehouse.

The real kicker is that Japan's postal system isn't sending parcels to Canada at the moment, so I had no choice but to go with the only option. EMS is currently available if you're in the USA, which is (should be...) significantly cheaper.

Got my clubs. 500 for shipping including 7 sets and a driver. Not terrible considering they were cheap cheap. Here’s what I ended up with. I know they’re not classic clubs but the tourstages are absolutely sick and I’m gonna get them in my regular rotation as soon as I put some x7s in them (x100 now) and bend to specs. Second favorite is the Osawas and third is the ms-1 but I don’t think I’m gonna go ripping the ms-1 apart. Kinda disappointed by the super 11s after all the hype I read about em. Nothing wowing me about them.

I paid for shipping on Saturday and the clubs showed up at my door on Wednesday.  They do an amazing job packing them too.  Super impressed.

I just bought a set of Yoro Craft custom Mizuno MP-55 from Yahoo Japan. There’s an amazing selection of clubs there. 
 

edited to add: I paid $80CAD for shipping and they arrived in 3 days with only $21 in duties and taxes.

I haven't tried FromJapan yet, only Buyee, but just from looking at their site, having access to picking FedEx or DHL directly would allow some cost savings. Thinking I'll go there next time. Were there any hiccups in their service or pretty smooth transaction overall?

3rd time I think I’ve used them and have had nothing less than great results 👍. Seems they have more selection too than the other sites I’ve tried.
