2022 course reports (MA)

Hey golfers,

 

I wanted to create a post to see how/what courses are playing well. Please report on the courses you played! 
 

Old Scotland links 

-fairways are good

-greens are good for spring. Rolling somewhat straight still bumpy. 
 

granite links

- amazing condition for beginning April

-greens were great

-rate is stupid expensive….$165 everyday now Monday-Sunday 

 

DW Field

-greens are not great right now

-overall conditions are good

 

Norton country club 

-greens are okay+conditions are great. I hate the course layout though 

 

PineHills 

played the jones course pre aeration 

-greens were bad 

-overall conditions were great

-new sand in all bunkers 

-$80 

 

Cedar hill 

-goat track 

-cheap and easy 

 

 

I’m sticking to Old Scotland or Norton until courses become more playable.

Acushnet River, overall ok condition for this time of year. Charging full summer rate.

Most courses have done away with winter rates since all the new covid golfers.

Only played Butternut Farm so far. Greens are pretty slow but in decent shape. There are the usual soggy areas given all the recent rain but for early April it's in good shape. Weekend fees were $58 to walk which I think is $4 more than last year.

 

Have my 9 hole league starting this Friday at Juniper Hill, will be interested to see what it's like after the last couple of years where they've really struggled to have decent greens. Hope they've made some progress!

Only played Wentworth Hills so far.  Pretty wet overall due the amount of rain we've had recently. The tee boxes are really beat up though and they will need to do a lot of work on them soon. But overall for early spring it seemed in pretty good shape with the greens starting to get faster and I think they just cut it last week for the first time too. Hopeful all the surrounding courses continue to improve too.

Braintree municipal golf course! 
 

best playing course I have found. Greens are FAST for this time of the year. Overall condition are great. <$50 walking. 
 

Unfortunately the course doesn’t suit my eye.

So Juniper Lakeside is much improved over last year. Of course that's all relative as it was really bad in 2021. Met with the new superintendent before our round and he had a few updates on changes being made so was nice to have that communication. It's never going to be a high end type of course but sound like he's going to get it back to being respectable and that's all we ask. Next week we're over on Riverside so will get to see how that side is doing. They are going to start aerating the greens on both courses soon to try and get things moving on improving the long term health there.

36 at Pinehills yesterday Jones greens will be solid in another week Nicklaus course maybe two weeks. Fairways were very good on both courses
