Severally cutting down 3iron shaft

Building a set of clubs for my buddy. I’m taking the shafts ( DG s300) from his old set and installing new heads. His pw shaft was bent and he had a 3 iron shaft that wasn’t going to be used in his new set. What would the effect of cutting that 3 iron shaft to pw length be? Am I better off putting an extension another shaft I have laying around?

You'd have a PW that's soft stepped 6 times.  vaguely equivalent to 2 flexes softer.  Not a good idea.

You'd be better off putting the 9i shaft in the PW, the 8i shaft in the 9i, 7i shaft in the 8i, etc.....

Then you'd only be soft stepping once - which usually isn't even a noticeable change in stiffness.

Yes, you still would have to butt cut to the desired length after doing that.   But then you should never assume that you'd get the same playing length when switching heads - so that's something you really would have needed to do regardless.

 

Or even better, just buy a new shaft for the PW and use the 3i shaft as an alignment rod.
