Final Update...New Toys from Bridgestone

Hello all!

Cold and snowy here in Chicago. I desperatley need some input.

My new Bridgestone J33R 460 8.5* with Diamana 63 Stiff, may be in the classified section as soon as tonight. I have had several range sessions (indoors @ the dome) with the driver over this past week and it just doesn't seem to be working for me. The shaft feels too whippy to me....It is a fantastic club and the ball just explodes off of the face.

I'm thinking about getting a Diamana 73 in X flex and having it put in my Taylormade R580XD 9.5*....would this be a good combo?

I don't know...maybe I am just jumping to conclusions here but there is something that just doesn't click with me and this club....maybe the loft, maybe the shaft is too light, square-open face angle, etc.

Any input would be appreciated. Feel free to PM me as well.

Thanks everyone,

Steve

How fast do you swing, how long do you hold your release and how abrupt is your transition? What don't you like about the 63?

I played a Diamana 63 in mine that I just never got along with, and I should have known better going into it. You may just not have a swing type that lends itself well to the 63, or you may not have it tipped enough. I needed to tip mine more, but was too chicken s*** to experiment that much with a $300 shaft. :) It was too light for my tastes anyway. I put a PM702 in it, and I've been very happy with the shaft. It's quite tip and butt stiff though - plays much differently than the 63, much more my style.

You could always pull the Diamana - and install a shaft that you are more comfortable in the J33 460 and than selll the Diamana.

Hello all,

Happy to say I must have had an off day because the J33R w/Diamana 63 Stiff performed unbelievably well today. I didn't get readings from a launch monitor but I could easily tell my ball speed has greatly increased from my Taylormade driver. The feel and clap of thunder at impact is exceptionally powerful and solid than anything I have ever hit. The 8.5* gives me that beautiful rising line drive ball flight.

The fairway wood, hybrid, and irons performed better than anything I have ever owned or demoed.....including my past Taylormade bag. The feel is so soft with the irons and the hybrid and fairway wood feel is so solid at impact as well.

I demoed some of the black finish wedges and loved them so much to the point that I got rid of the TM Rac wedges and bought a 56* and 60* of the J33.

Goodbye Taylormade....hello Bridgestone for good!!!

  • 2 weeks later...

I actually ended up falling for the 580XD TP. As you can tell from my signature, I am back to Taylormade stuff. The R580XD TP and I just clicked. It has an e-1 swingweight which I never tried before, but absolutley love.

The R580XD just feels so natural to me compared to the J33R 460. IMO I felt like I had to force some shots with the Bridgestone products. I am a feel player and all around the Taylormade stuff beats out Bridgestone hands down. Again, this is just my opinion. There are plenty of guys out there that like the Bridgestone stuff. I guess to each his own.

As for the driver, it will be in the classified section pretty soon. If there are no takers, then off to Ebay.

Happy Holidays!

I just bought the j33r with diamana combo and played it 1 round and couldnt hit the driver worth a dam the shaft was so whippy i couldnt do anything to square the face. I heard someplace that the diamana they put in this driver has a 4 inch tip section vs the 2 inch the other ones have. If you notice the diamana that comes in this club says Q4"T where all the other ones will say X5ct. So ill be ripping this shaft out soon.

I just want to confirm that you actually meant E1 SW and not D1

the 580XD is very hard to beat especially with a Diamana in it

other than the Fuji 757 TP that comes with the R7 TP,

I never play stock shafts in my driver

I have tried an Accra T70 M4 in my J33R 420cc and that thing jumps

coming from playing a R7 for the past year

it was a bit difficult to get used to the muted sound of Bridgestone drivers

(but don't let that fool you)

I'm playing Bridgestone 3 & 5 fairway woods and 21* hybrid and I love that muted sound

and I'm longer & more accurate than ever.
