Anyone thinks $120+/hr lessons are not worth it for you?

Great suggestion. In fact, when I'm at the range and see pros giving lessons, I observe what they do, how they teach. Unfortunately, I haven't found any pro that is worth the investment yet.

...then go to another range?  🙂   The guy you want probably won't magically appear?   🙂     Why not also try to find a "top 100" teacher in your area - and drive to their course/range?   Again - ask them if you could observe first.   Best way to validate is with your own eyes/ears.

Looking for anyone who is good at something is the same - golf instructor; doctor; accountant; lawyer....most folks ask their friends who has had a good result - and ask for a recommendation/introduction.   No different - same with golf - find a friend who takes lessons - and go to that teacher and ask.     Good luck.  You're on the right track.

Now you are moving the goal posts (as you always do). I never said you need to fly to them, I just said not everyone has access to someone just as good within a few hours drive. Do some people? Sure. Does everyone? No

And I do find it funny that you are certain other instructors are just as good, when you have not taken a lesson with either Monte or Dan.

didn't move one goal posts, you as you always do throw that around when you have nothing better to say.

btw- I took lessons with Monte and Dan before you even joined the forum.

$120 bucks is not so much really, but why spend it when youtube and instagram is one stop shopping for free if you know what you are looking for once you have the basics down, and even basics are free too.  Like Brendon's BBG is real good site with so much stuff on it and all for free.  😃

Problem is that most golfers don't know what their faults are and what to look for.  I will agree with you that 120 for lesson these days isn't even in the realm of expensive/costly.  I'm planning to schedule a lesson with Monte here in a few months and I won't even bat an eye for what he charges as I believe it's very fair.

You literally moved the goal posts bud. I never once said or advocated flying to Monte and Dan, I simply said not everyone has access to a similar caliber instructor within a few hours drive, a very simple statement that you needlessly made an issue out of.

You didn't say but it is implied when you say most can't find instruction just a good closer to them, I disagree. Sure the guy in N. Dakota or something might have to travel farther as in jump in a plane but I find rarely is that needed. If you are doing the online route then yes I do agree Monte and Dan are hard to beat in that regard, they have kept the prices reasonable while everyone jacked theirs up.

I have gone to a few of Monte's clinics.  I have always left knowing more than when I arrived and I have been a better golfer 3 and 6 months afterwords.  However, having seen his videos and having read his posts, I knew that would be the case.

There are a few other instructors on this site I would trust with swing analysis, but I wouldn't pay a local joe pro for lessons and there are renowned instructors I would run screaming away from.

The golf swing is geometrically, physically (physics, body architecture,  and movement), as well as environmentally complex. Once you get beyond the basics of stance and grip, there are scant few who really can see a person's swing and communicate a better way for that person to swing and the most efficient way for that person to effect those changes. Once you add in that 99% of people's proprioception is way whacked out from reality, teaching golf is really extremely hard.

I defend my stance that $120/hrs is chump change for good golf instruction.  Once you get past basics, it takes talent and knowledge across several disciplines and good communication skills to boot. A person with those skills deserves well north of $120/hrs.

can you post your swing, sounds like you know the best instructors so should look pretty good?

... When I taught I quickly learned most players are not doing what they think they are doing. This is what you see with the guys/girls on tour that have their personal instructions catch things before they become a problem. If you are talking the club back under the plane and inside then coming over the top in your downswing, it is very difficult to know where your backswing plane is by feel. Most good instructors will have you exaggerate a feel to accomplish a goal and under their watchful eye they will let you know when you go too far (if you do) or if you are not going far enough (most do not). The majority of the time needing a 25% change a student will make a 5% change but to them it feels like 50% change. Often I gave students drills to do between lessons and when they came back the next week they were not doing the drill correctly. More common than most would think.

... Once an instructor gets you to where you need to be and you are a hard worker, video can help you maintain it. But keep in mind most have natural tendencies that will constantly creep back into their swing and a refresh lesson every now and then is never a bad idea. I don't think it is difficult to put a price on an instructors worth if they help you become a better and more consistent player. As the saying goes money only has value when you spend it and as others have already stated most everyone has a personal limit they are wiling to spend.

... But as others have said every instructor/student relationship isn't a good one. Finding one that meshes with your ideas of the swing and has a personality you enjoy or at least find acceptable isn't so easy. Word of mouth and personal recommendations are huge and I certainly had plenty of that and although rare, some just didn't respond to my style of teaching.
