The jump from the Blueprint 4i to the Crossover 3i is pretty odd as well. The 4i is really compact, and then all of a sudden it's a leap to a massive head with lots of offset in the 3i. 

I'd have to think of it as switching to a completely different club, like going from a hybrid to an iron, or a fairway wood to an iron.

That said, I think he's a player to watch out for.

I have tried it from i59 to 425 crossover.  Like switching to a hockey stick. 
But he is on Tour and I am on my couch…

I tried it a few years ago, going from an MP4 5i to a Ping Crossover #4. Just too much of a change.

 

But like you, I'm on my couch, and he's on Tour...

Why wouldn't Ping just take a Blueprint wedge and bend it to Gap loft? Seems odd, agreed. But then again, he's not a household name?

I went from PXG 0311ST 4 iron to 3i Ping Crossover. It was more like it was going from iron to hybrid for me. Also had a graphite shaft in the crossover and steel iron shaft in the 4i which also differentiated the two as well.

I can understand that.

I got the Crossover to use as a "more helpful" iron, so mentally it was a tough switch from the fairly small-headed 5i to the massive Crossover. It would have been better to think of it like a hybrid, as you said.
