Small Batch Monaco

Hey fellas - 

 

Wanted to reach out to the group and get some advice. Just randomly received a phone call from Callaway golf informing me I was selected to buy a limited small batch run of the Monaco. I wish it was free but had to pay $1,500 for it... Love the putter and I actually play the Vegas Toulon as of today.... 

 

My question is what should I do with it... Game it or sell it. 

 

I see on eBay the prices are all over the place for similar small batch runs. I could maybe get 2k,3k or more for it?

Don't buy it if you're expecting (or needing) to turn a profit on it.  From my experience with SB, there isn't a huge market for them and it's really model dependent.  You might not be able to sell it all - but because it's the Vegas the 777 theme does seem to do better, but I would not expect it to be a massive windfall.

Yea I always wondered why the SB Toulon resale value is so low compared to the rest of the market. Scotty crushes it for limited runs where Toulon clearly struggles. 

 

Still on the fence, I mean I panicked on the phone call and said yes already... 

 

That being said as a golf wrx'er they already had my card on file. ha!

I love the milled LV style and would prefer the non Monaco version in green/cream for $450.  There may be someone who values it more however

Honestly, kudos Callaway... Really cool experience, received the phone and guy on the phone was stoked for me on winning the club. Let me know how much it was, what specs I wanted and let me know it will be here in 2-3 weeks. 

 

I wish I could find out more detail on what it's made of. I know Toulon has been experimenting with different material use. 

 

Also, I did just see Xander is rocking a very similar putter to this now, which makes me even more excited to get it!

yes, this is a cool one. I was lucky enough to get called for the La Grange - its the chocolate finish - one of the coolest looking putters I have and such a since milling (similar to the 777). 

 

i do struggle with if i should put it in play or not! i have not yet - practice with it on the Varispeed every once in awhile.

You 'won' the opportunity to spend $1500 for a Callaway putter? They must have a very good marketing/sales staff to sell that one.

I would probably only buy to game it or keep it.  I have the 2019 H7 and 2022H4.5 I like them both. I am the minority that doesn’t care for a crank hosel or plumbers neck.

Well, I sold out and put it on eBay. I saw a guy asking 3250 for it so I copied. If anyone is interested DM and willing to work with yea. Not looking to make a huge profit.

I was chosen for this one as well, couldn't pass it up.  I have a Las Vegas that always seems to find its way back into my bag, but I love I've always wanted a plumbers neck on it.

Are you going to game it? I game the Vegas double bend and always wanted a plumbers neck. It’s just like a piece of art and would feel terrible gaming it. Plus I would have to remove the grip and get my gamer grip on it.

I'm going to at least give it a shot.  My brother put in for the same putter and didn't get it, so he already offered me what I paid for it if I don't like it.  This is actually the 4th one of these I've "won", only the second time I've actually gone through with the purchase (I'm convinced they keep coming back to the suckers who keep buying them).  The first one was the Santa Monica RS and I love the way the face feels, but I prefer the Las Vegas head, so I'm hoping this will be a good combo

Beautiful collection. Ha, I joked earlier about winning the putter but 1,500 dollars later still feels like I won the putter. 
 

do you have any idea what steel they used for the Monaco? I heard rumblings it was the 904l steel. If that’s the case I may actually keep it. The closest I would get to gss within my budget.

Huge bummer… 303 steel is nice but I wish they made it something super special.

I wonder if this is the release people were talking about when it was rumored Toulon would offer the H3 neck again on the LV model. It's not an option on the garage site so this must be. Not surprised they are asking $1500 since they made it a limited SB, either.

 

For the same price, I have a tour-issue Toulon Las Vegas H3 with sight dot available as well! 😂

Delivered this past week.  I'm in Rhode Island so won't get it out on a course any time soon, but the head is much smaller than the Las Vegas.  It does have a great look over the ball

I was just telling myself the same thing. The head is so much smaller! Having such a internal debate on keeping this thing.

My one complaint would be the weight, 335g is much lighter than I prefer.

Do you guys mind measuring the head dimensions from a few different spots and also vs a retail las vegas like the one in the pic if you can? The hosels are milled on and not welded so it would be cool to know if they are making different sized heads in batches for whatever reason.

(Minus my less than perfect measuring) It's about 3 inches from toe to heel on the face, also about 3" from face to the back point of the wings, and then about 3.5" at its widest point.  Where my Las Vegas is just about 3.5 inches across the face, and just under 4" at its widest point.  Its the same from the face to the tip of the wings on both

I had my measuring tape backwards but this looks pretty similar - take a look at these measurements from my tour issue LV H3 head and does it still measure up glaringly smaller than your retail? It looks like it might be the same as the Monaco but my behind the face measurement might be fudged.

Definitely not glaringly smaller.  Here's my retail LV

Yeah you're right, look like tour issue heads are/were the same size as retail - but the Monaco release is definitely smaller. It does prove there may be two head molds, though!
