Odyssey Toulon gen1 vs gen2

Just looking for feedback on the two generations. I rolled the most recent gen las vegas the other day and fell in love with its looks and feel. Is there any differences to note between the two? Feel? Size? Looks? It does appear the face milling is slightly different with newer gen.

You are referring to the 2019 release and 2022 release? The H7 is 33 degrees toehang, the H4.5 45.  Both are 3/4 shaft offset.  The new milling is kind of a reverse of the old milling where the diamonds protrude out instead of flat with the face.  The new H4.5 has weight towards toe and heel which might be slightly more forgiving.  The new gen3 green stroke lab shaft is 7g lighter and slightly stiffer than the gen1 black shaft.  The feel off the face may be slightly firmer on the newer gen, but I have 2 slightly different grips on each and the shafts are different weights.  The tech slightly better on roll and forgiveness on the new release but not by much as all.

I felt the new gen was very soft. So the older gen even softer? What about head shape and size? Are they almost identical? I like the much smaller size of the fang mallet.

The size is identical   I prefer the old smoke finish over the black new finish.

The feel of the old one is slightly softer.  The new one is slightly firmer, more forgiving, but the feedback on center strikes is better.  I use a SS Pistol GT tour on the old, a SS Pistol Tour 1.0 on the new one.  My old one is 1/2” shorter and has a softer shaft.  All of those factors could be making me feel the old one being softer as well.

The new gen is definitely very soft (for a stainless steel putter). If the deep diamond milling pattern is new for 2022 (idk if it is), then gen2 it’s definitely at least a little softer.

I have a 2022 Toulon Chicago and i’m a big fan of the feel + sound. Soft and pretty muted - i can’t stand high pitch sounds like with my SC Phantom X11 (which i’ll be selling). The new split (heel/toe) weights in gen2 should boost moi, and is just an overall better/more practical split-weight design than the prior generation’s. In the gen1’s, I never really understood the idea of placing the extra tungsten weight inside the middle of the sole, essentially directly under the cg. Moving weight away from cg and towards heel/toe is not some new concept and is the generally accepted practice for boosting moi. Additionally, in gen2 they moved cg forward which - supposedly - improves impact consistency and reduces gear effect.

That being said, they’re both fully milled 303ss putters and thus both are good options

Yea, i never did roll the first gen, Ive actually been using a cobra nova for a year and a half and love it. Had no plans on changing it, but after rolling the second gen vegas, its literally a nova clone but with better feel.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
