Tri-Hot 5k

Hey Everyone,

I went through a fitting process last year on SAM. I was gravitating towards the Tri-Hot 5k because I liked the feel of the blade with the stability of a mallet. Loved it all the way through trying it, spec'ing it out, etc. Once I finally got it I just had a miserable time with it. Couldn't find the middle of the insert so the ball felt like a brick, instead of that soft insert feel. Anyone else have a similar experience?

Everything the same from you fitting? Did you change grips? Length?

The other thing is how is your setup? Are you now too close to the ball or too handsy? Or something else?

If you're not feeling that super soft white hot feel its all how you're delivering the putter, you're hitting the top or bottom of the face. Work on your stroke/setup.

you might be hitting down on the ball. try to either square up your putter face (don't lean your club) when you setup, or setup with the ball slightly more towards your left foot

I just did the exact same 😄 albeit not a fitting, I trialed a 5K in my local store and made everything (as you do) - it just felt so right. So bought a near new one on ebay and it didn't feel nearly as good. So sold it.

Best bet for an easy fix is to visit a local pro and just have him take a look. You will spend a little money but he or she will be able to tell you quickly why you are not hitting the center

Thanks to everyone who's responded. The interesting thing is I was still seeing my coach after the fact who fit me for it on SAM. We made it .5" longer and had it built to the loft/lie he liked given my stroke and what I'd done on SAM before. It just...I dunno, I can't seem to hit that thing in the middle. I'll keep working on my game/stroke and hopefully it comes along.

Did you wear the same shoes during fitting v.s. on course?

Yup. I always wear the same shoes when doing anything golf for this reason. I know my stroke sucks because I'm hitting the bottom of the club and not the insert. But it's weird that with a 35" demo I was flushing it and with a 35.5" gamer I'm not. I'll keep working at it

I really think it's the stroke lab shaft and the counterbalance that is throwing you off. My sense of pace and feel is completely thrown off when there is any significant counterbalance in the putter. Easiest place to demonstrate the effect is with a superstroke grip because the weight can easily be removed. I had convinced myself a number of times at home on the carpet that a counterbalanced putter calms the hands and helps you make a smooth stroke on the ball. Each time I took the putter out on course it felt like I completely forgot how to putt. Once I took the weight out, everything was better again.

I would recommend removing the grip and weight (several threads on this), installing a superstroke grip, and trying different amounts of counterweight (0,25,50gm). As a secondary option, you could also consider reshafting (hopefully you have a CH neck). I have a Tri Hot 5K DW CH and like it significantly better with a non-counterbalanced shaft.
