Moi matched my iron set, now living on the heel

Rbsiedsc

Recommended Posts

Had my iron set moi matched this off-season and now all my shots are dangerously on the heel side. I have also implemented a lot of shift and arm straight down movement in my downswing and it’s going well (my low point has moved back a lot. Need my shift work to help bring it more forward). Can doing that to a set cause a miss like that to arise? No idea if maybe now I am just a 1/2” or so too close to the ball (club builder extended my 7i 1/2” as well and based that on the moi build).  I’ll try to post video in the next few days.

Probably leaving the face open and moving towards the ball.

My guess is steep in transition. Upper body and lower body not separating and hands moving out, and using side bend to shallow

Post videos

Thanks. I do have a video in the swing video section but it’s without a ball.  I will try to post this week when I can get to the range.

changing that many things at once (4 by my count in this post alone) and trying to pinpoint what’s causing a specific miss is like trying to tie your shoes while you’re walking.

Here are the videos. Realized that it looks nothing like the swing I posted in the swing video forum. I guess feel is not real. I did submit a video lesson with my coach. I did hit these a little more solid. I actually set up on the hosel and that seemed to help, almost like before I was set up in the middle and then swiping across with the toe

As a non expert looks more of a swing issue than the moi marched set

what I notice is lifting arms to start the swing and continue lifting them to the top so some overswing also due to no wrist set.

Easier to see from face on but your turn is not of just pointing the left hip away from the target vice a rotation of the pelvis.

Late movement of pressure to the lead side, arms pulling down and getting stuck

Got my lesson back. I am reverse pivoting and over swinging.

Assignments:

use my DIY pressure board and make sure i am pressuring properly (I was over doing it from the Power Shift video)

Slow my backswing down as it is just as fast as my downswing, which is leading to sequencing issues and overswinging.

Excessive left hip movement away from the target in the backswing and late wrist set are the issues causing your problems, not the clubs.

And backswing is not too fast or too long.

thanks. From my coach, he said the excessive hip turn came from having my backswing move too fast causing me to not pressure soon enough into my lead side. Slowed my tempo on my back swing down today and struck the ball significantly better FWIW.

he said the excessive hip turn

Ahah, but monte didn't say excessive hip turn, he said excessive hip movement *away from the target*.

Looking at your first and second video in that latest post: You're pivoting about your right hip in the back swing... Your right hip is stationary and your left hip is swinging down to the ball. Rather, your right hip should move back and away from the ball in the backswing. Right pocket back and around to the target. Looks like you might be doing it on that wobbly board thingamajig.

Do you know what adjustments were made during the MOI matching?

Some guesses that could cause heel miss:

1. If weight was add to the clubs on the toe, they are now harder to turn over, leading to heel strikes.

2. If your shaft lengths were adjusted, this could throw you off.

Monte replied and say it’s not the clubs and pointed out the issue is the swing and specifically what is the issue and it’s not the club or the moi matching

Sorry I missed that.

I'm still curious to know more about MOI matching. Can someone fill me in on this process?

So my 7i was extended an extra 1/2”. From there the total moi across the set was matched. Roughly 3/8” in between. My builder had an MOI scale and may have had to deviate slightly. Because of the length increase, so save money on new shafts we decided on soft stepping and then getting a new shaft for the 4i.

Ok I did a little reading and I understand the intent of MOI matching...

Did your builder add or remove mass of the heads in some way?

I don’t know if he did or not. He might of. He definitely didn’t remove. My irons didn’t look ground down at all

So was struggling with face contact. Last resort really tried to exaggerate my wrist hinge at the start of the takeaway. Boom! Will see how that plays long term. That with the tempo work lead to really crisp long shots today.

Is the lack of wrist hinge something your instructor ever point out in your swing?

no he never did but i think he was more focused on most my macro movements (shift and turn) that i bet he eventually would have gone to wrists
