I've lost my Mind in Golf

Recommended Posts

2021 was playing my best golf in 10 years.  Was down to a 3 ish and routinely was hovering around par.  If I could putt in 2021 I would have been scratch.

Even as a 3+HC I decided to play in Championship Flight in club championship

Fired 74 first round in horrible conditions to sneak into last group.

Shot a 33 on the front and had a 5 stroke lead.  Had HORRIBLE luck 3 -4 holes in a row.  Hit Sprinkler head and Went OB.  Lost a ball just off the fairway.  Hit into a tree and couldn't find ball.  In a matter of 3-4 holes on the back I lost it and shot 45 on the back and didn't even finish top 3.

I was 1000% certain I was winning. Didn't do anything different just legit horrible luck.

I didn't play much golf last year was Very busy professionally.  Have played quite a bit 10 rounds or so already this year and honestly haven't played a good round since that day.

Legit I don't feel like I've hit a good shot since 2021.  Now fighting a lower back problem as well.

Avg score 85 this year.

Entering Embarrassing territory and paying out like a ATM Machine.

That's my Rant.  Me also ... I think I'm winning Club Championship this year.

why did this get moved to instruction??

The mods do that with everything they don't understand.

Or else there's one mod who does it like he's running a fascist dictatorship.

This post will now either be banned, or else someone will pipe up and tell me to be thankful for the mods who are always moving things to instruction or some other random place where it will never see the light of day.

Been nice knowing you fellas.

A golfer who is in his late 60s yet still is a 3 handicap told me recently, “the longest golf course in the world is between your ears”. Recently I have been struggling (the struggle changes each round) and golf hasn’t been fun. I am trying to work on enjoying myself again and accepting bad holes but it’s hard.

I was known for rarely having doubles or worse and just his week I had 6 doubles in one round.

Sometimes when I get in a rut like that I just quit counting strokes for a while and just focus on hitting good shots on the course. I lower my expectations for the round and put in my practice time on the range doing just basic basic fundamentals and short game.  For me there’s never any big revelation just gotta get it sorted from about waist high to waist high and the rest takes care of itself

I retired in September played a lot of lousy golf---upper 80's low 90's.  In my mind when I retired,  I was going to get back to mid single digits.  finally had a good round 78, with no birdies, first time I broke 80 since before COVID hit.  Things were really easy, no thinking, just hitting the ball. 86 yesterday so it didn't last long! I don't know how old the OP is but I just turned 56 and my body control isn't the same as it was 10-15 years ago, my honest assessment. Also swing flaws are more difficult to compensate for.  My story not sure its the same reasons the OP is regressing.

Golf is hard.  That pretty much sums up your situation.

You can either buckle down and get to work, or stop worrying about it.

Getting to work is a whole lot harder.  I assume you're not getting paid to play, so it has to be really important or you won't do it.

Not worrying about it is easier, but if you're focused on your score you won't be happy.

So, what do you think you're going to do?

You took last year off, back is tight, are a 3, played 10 rounds so far?????  Come  on man!!!

Once you get your back issue resolved, skip the money games for a bit, get some extended range sessions in and you'll be fine.

3 lost balls in (1) 9 and you still shot 45 for a 78 ....that's pretty good actually.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
