what do you think?
I have been playing the pro v1 but at a ball fitting the machine said the pro v1x is better for me what do you think. here are my specs:

swing speed: 80mph (not sure exact but, it is within a mph)
ball speed: 123.7mph
launch angle: 15.1
Spin rate: 4161rpm

these testings were done with the pro v1

Thanks for your help

With that launch angle and spin rate, I'd say the ProV1x is the ball for you too. However, I'm not sure you'll see any benefits with a lower swing speed. The older ProV1x balls were geared for the higher swing speed, but I'm not sure about the newer ones. I would suggest playing the X for a while and see if you notice improvements in your play assuming that's what you're looking for.

I have never been 'fit" for a specific ball, but I play the ProV1. For me it is defintely longer, which surprises me since a lower spin rate is supposed to give more distance. FWIW my swing speed is between 105-115, which i believe supports the X.

Play them side by side and make your decision.

Good luck

I swing at 95-100mph with a ball mph of around 145 and a 14* launch angle. In January i was down in FL playing for 5 days and wanted to test the two balls to see which i liked better. I was in favor of the lower spin rate of the x but was afraid of loss of spin around the greens. I kept one of each in my pocket at all times and after each drive would look at what i had just hit. Most of the longer drives were the x, especially into the wind and they seemed to bend the way i wanted them too. I also did not notice any reduction of control around the green. Now, I also had some great shots with the v1 as well and did hit clunkers with both too. Although i am going to try the x this season, at my level, i don't know that there is much difference between the two for me.

As for you, I was always under the impression that, for the slower swing speeds such as yours, the solo or nxt was a better ball than the pro line.

thanks for all the info.

The pro v1x is the #1 suggestion. So at the start of the season if will play both of them and see which one i like more. The only problem is that i don't want to lose the short game control of the v1. Did any of you lose short game control when you play the pro v1x? thanks for the help

For shortgame, I've found the V1X actually spins a little less, but comes off "deader" to counter act it. Like as if the V1X was heavier. I don't know if that makes sense or not. I've found that the same swing (hitting a basic chip) will produce the same end result, the V1x just spends maybe a couple feet more on the ground and less in the air.

With that spin rate number I would go with the X because it will spin less. Never fit yourself by your club head speed only. You have to look at your ball speed and spin rates closer than your club head speed. That was always the miss conception that you needed club head speed over a certain number to hit a certain ball. Get the highest ball speed for you club head speed with the optimal spin rate. :D

I have a swing speed between 105-112. I have a high launch conditions and the Pro V1x was reco'd for me. I would say try out both and see what plays best.

according to robot testing, the prov1x is pretty much the best performing all around ball in it's class if you have a club head speed between 105-115 (testing 63 balls on an iron byron with the same driver) for distance and accuracy. prov1 is a 3 piece, and although there are more pros playing it this year on tour, it's because of their grooves. the prov1x is a superior ball.

with that said, you should pick a golf ball from the green back, not from the driver forward. Ball fitting is completely backwards these days. Play the ball that feels and performs the best around the greens for you, then pick a driver and shaft that makes that ball work.... that's how the pros do it.

i used to use the 2007 ProV1x, but they firmed up the 2009 ProV1x too much, and the greenside control wasn't the same, so i've switched to the 2009 Pro V1.

as someone said earlier, pick a golf ball from the green back. that's where you are gonna be saving most of your strokes.

I'm with you on that one. One benefit the pros have on tour, they can play models from past years that fit their game, like the 07 version or some guys play versions even older. The 09 performs great off the tee, but feels like a rock around the greens. Maybe something with all that lawsuit stuff with Callaway? Seemed like a bad change with the new grooves. I've tried experimenting with some new balls to find something as long as the 1x with a real soft feel around the greens, but haven't found it yet.

You may want to give the new Callaway Tour i(s) shot, it's an interesting choice. It has high spin around the greens and pretty low spin of the driver. A lot of folks around here like the Penta too, but I found it spun a bit to much off the driver and had a higher flight than I prefer.
