Opinions on Aluminum Face Scottys?

I’ve been looking for a D-shaped mallet with a plumbers neck and have come across the 2018 Fastback 2. I’m a little nervous about the aluminum face/sole insert they used on that Select line of putters. 

 

What are everyone’s thoughts on the aluminum face? Feel? Sound? Soft? Clicky? 

 

Anyone still using a putter from that line? I honestly can’t say I have ever seen anyone seeking one of them out which makes me nervous lol.

Probably a touch higher pitch cause that's just aluminum. But probably also assume Scotty has some dampening tape or something to mute that. 

 

You can always love a putter if it's dropping putts for you.

Obviously not a mallet, but the feel is soft, higher pitched sound. Detour with the back milled off.

I had one, briefly, and I thought it was lame. I'm not a critic of feel or sound in putters but there was something about it that was just not right.

But, that is very subjective. One person's trash is another guy's treasure. I gave it to my friend and he still uses it, successfully. 

I have a previous Fastback version (2015 Select, solid face but non plumber's neck) and I think it's a lot better putter than the aluminum insert version.

I had a 2020 Special Select Newport (solid face) and I thought it was fine.  But I think the closest thing they made to a Fastback 2 that year was the Squareback.

I would encourage you to try one out if you can, the feel is quite different than carbon or stainless steel.  I personally could not get used to the sound/feel.

I had a 2020 phantom x 5.5 that I loved the look of but hated the sound/feel. Couldn't get used to it and sold it.

I have a 2017 or 2018 Newport 2.5 and honestly I like the feel and sound. I have a newer Scotty as well and I prefer the older one tbh
