Fix my laid off backswing - if you could help me never shank again that would be cool too

Recommended Posts

You grew up playing baseball. Watch the ground up sequence and notice how his shoulder swings his arm into position.

Arms outracing the body. Hitting it off the front.

Like most people your mechanical issues are caused by conceptual issues. I'll look for a video that will clear things up for you and message it to you.

Your friend's right arm is already folding. He looks balanced.

But when does he start turning his shoulders?

I make note of the location of the shaft being inside the ball and tell myself to swing inside the ball.

Ya that’s what it looks like. What you’re doing is pulling your arms in closer to you. That can be a fix for someone who shanks but pulling the arms in closer to you doesn’t really get to the root of the problem which is that you’re still not using the body to bring the arms around and doing this can and often does create other problems.

The long and end of it is, if this works, it works. Long term, if you’re happy with your strikes and scores, it is what it is.

Not saying this is the "fix" but your posture appears too upright - and is likely a factor in you shanking - not enough flex in hips so you "hunch" your shoulder and reach with your hands.

In both swings in the takeaway the first move of the club head is to swing toward you as your arms move closer to your body - cover the club head and step thru and you'll see that the club head moves in first - probably only an inch.    If in your setup you then let go with your left hand where does your hand swing, inside the grip?

Clearly your baseball experience helps a lot and you've learned a motion to over come.

One drink and that's it. Don't be rude. Drink your drink... do it quickly. Say good night...and go home ...

I've had my ugly bouts of the shanks and this helped me. Had a coach tell me the shaft and the spine should be about perpendicular at address (as a general rule).

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
