Struggling with right hip firing, shoulder drop.

Recommended Posts

Can’t seem to find consistent sequencing in the downswing. Been struggling with my right side firing out and on days where I feel stiff (morning rounds) my hips feel like they can only kick up to get through the ball. Anything that could help? Tournament golf is the biggest hurdle and all my swing resorts to is a nasty spin out to right field .

The video I shared on the course the dreaded miss that is keeps lurking into my rounds. Any tips?

The simplest explanation is that you're not getting off your trail side when stiff/not warmed up. You can't "fire" a hip that doesn't have weight on it, so if your right side coming towards the ball too much its because you hung back on it too long and you need to focus on making sure you're shifting off your back leg before your downswing starts.

You just diagnosed your own issue, and then are asking for swing advice, which won't do a bit of good if your body is physically capable. If it isn't, then make it capable and then a lot of your issues will subside.  We all have different physical limitations and very few of us are without physical flaw thus you have to attack your weaknesses and the first thing is to reduce the physical limitation that is causing your performance to suffer.  If you have tight hips, address it, because if you try to change your swing motion while your body isn't physically capable then you are sure to get injured.  The physio aspect of golf is so often overlooked yet we all think that we should be scratch or better handicaps while not being able to touch our toes!! Work on your hip mobility aggressively for a couple months and then report back. I assure you that things will have improved.

Appreciate this! I think I’ve been going down a rabbit hole of correcting my swing to overcome “physical” limitations and not working on my body more seriously. Going to start working on this and will get back! Thanks!
