Extending Putter

Wasn't sure if this went in here or club building so apologies if this is in the wrong forum, but I was looking for advice on getting a putter extended. 

 

I've got a Nike Method 003 from The Oven which has been in the bag for 4 years or so now and is a great putter. Lovely balance, great feel and I'm pretty deadly with it, usually under 30 putts for a round.

 

However as part of a lesson plan I'm doing we looked at putting, and it turns out the only reason the spec worked for me was because I wasn't standing upright enough, now I am my left hand is about an inch over the top of the grip. It's actually been working even better since my lesson, until it gets windy, then stability is lacking.

 

So the question is can I get it extended without ruining it? Not really in a position to buy a new putter, plus I like my Method. 

 

It's currently playing at 33.5 inches and I am 6 foot 1, so not really ideal.

Yes. Normally a pretty cheap process for most golf shops to do. Just make sure you have them readjust the lie angle as it will play a bit more flat after you extend it. Depends how picky you are though.

Clubmakers forum for sure.  Extending a putter is very simple and you can easily do yourself. Extending an inch will noticeably change the feel of the putter as well as the lie angle, but it might be for the better for you. If you are not handy and don’t want to learn the basic club building of changing a grip and shaft extension, any reputable shop in your area can do pretty cheap.

Good point above. Might be helpful to take note of the current swingweight and adjust after the extension to match if it bothers you. It will play heavier after extending.

Thank you both, and apologies for the wrong forum thing. Doesn't sound like something I have the tools to do myself so will pop into the club shop tomorrow and see what they say.

 

I assume if it doesn't work out it's fairly easily reversible?

Yep. Easy to reverse.

You need a pipe cutter and some epoxy.

Since it's going into a putter, you could look at an aluminum extension to save some weight.

OK that's sent me down a rabbit hole looking at new shafts 🙂

 

A Stability shaft would be well out of budget but the KBS models look interesting. Hmmm.

 

When it finally stops raining here in the UK I will head down to the course and see what I can arrange. I think I'll start by extending it then go from there, so thank you all, very useful info 🙂
