Cobra King Forged CB (black version)

Realize these are 4-5 yrs old now but anyone still playing them or have any experience with them? Maybe compared to the MIM Tour or the new Tours or CB’s?

I had the mixed set of black cb and mb. Loooved them. Wish I still had them. They were beautiful, accurate, long enuff, and felt great. I switch a lot and one of the few sets I regret swapping. The wear was good too. Swapped em for new set of Titey CBS one day whilst bored.

Played the 2019 version for 3 years, loved them: feel was amazing, as good as anything out there IMO, and ball speed retention on misses was shockingly good with the tungsten plugs; they were too small for me (heel to toe) in the mid/long irons though and wanted to go sideways too easily, so I eventually moved on to a p7 combo that wants to stay straighter.

I tested the new 7i of the CB and Tour vs mine; the new CB is definitely a touch bigger than the old one (topline blade length and sole, to my eye at least). I preferred the feel of the old CB but the bigger new one still felt great seemed marginally straighter with the bigger package.

The new tour had basically the same top and sole to the new CB, just a touch longer blade length. Feel was just as good as the new CB to me, maybe a bit muted/less feedback on the misses relative to the CB, but not a GI iron by any stretch. Much more forgiving to me with the longer blade length.

Turf interaction on all three are a 10/10 for me. Cobra just nails this for my fairly steep swing and firm-ish courses in San Diego.

If I had my way I would get a color-matched combo of the king tours and the 2019 king forged CBs, skipping the current CBs. I know the current CBs have also gotten really great reviews and I think they are for sure a good offering, just not forgiving enough in the long irons to me, and not as sweet feeling as the older CBs.

Also, I hated the MIMs FWIW. Looked great and numbers were good & reasonably forgiving, but if I missed the absolute middle of the sweet spot they felt like total trash.

I could not agree more with this. I really wanted to like the MIM Tour, but anything other than center struck was not enjoyable. They seemed to have a bump in speed and height for me, but not worth the lack of feel. I also did not like how they were basically cast irons when it came to adjusting. I wanted to go a bit flatter in lie angle, and had my usual shop refuse to do it as they were so stiff they didn't want to deal with them.
