Katy, TX Willow Fork CC reviews and comments?

SnowbirdTom

Recommended Posts

Moving to Katy for this winter and looking at Willow Fork CC flex membership as an option.  Any reviews or comments on this establishment?  I'll be contacting the club directly on Monday for more info on membership options for snowbirds.

Cinco Ranch Goat Track has lost their pricing minds and Meadowbrook Farms is worse.  No one else in the area seems to offer something with a monthly fee that I can find.  Nearest would be Blackhorse, a 30 minute drive in good traffic conditions.

i have a buddy who has a weekend membership there and i played with him about a month ago.  it's a pretty low key situation.  club house is a cool older building... not fancy, but decent food and crowd was pretty lively.

course is an older style parkland course.  would be an easy walk.  some interesting holes... lots of dogleg lefts on the back 9!

conditions were solid, but not spectacular... my buddy said the greens are usually really good, but had been recently punched.  they would definitely be pretty tricky if they were fast.

overall, i enjoyed the course, but nothing super memorable.  for the price it seems like a good deal and buddy says it's usually no problem to get out there.

Thanks, spoke with their membership director today and had a very pleasant conversation.  Fees aren’t insane, initiation is reasonable.  I’ll be checking them out when I get down there in October, hopefully get a trial 18 in.  I’m in it simply for the walking golf and practice facilities access.  A great lunch available would be awesome.

I’ve played the publics in the area.  For their pricing structure vs conditions, the CC seems like a great value.

Wish Gus had a monthly membership.  lol

Gus doesn't have a monthly membership, but they have started a program where for $500/yr you get advanced tee time access. Another option to consider, it makes getting a morning tee time significantly easier...

Until it oversells like everything else.  As a single, I can usually get a slot whenever I want to play there.

Short update. Visited the club today and have a round scheduled for late next week.  Facilities looked decent for the cost.  Obviously not a high end club, but very friendly staff and great first impression from the members I met walking the place.

Meadowbrook Farms is worse!  Makes a moderate CC seem reasonable for a guy that plays 3-5x a week.

I figure the $500 average monthly cost for the CC flex membership actually comes up cheaper than gas, tolls and monthly membership for my other option at Cypress Lakes.  Frequency of play and convenience figures big too.  I’m 5 minutes from Willow Fork and 35 each way to Cypress Lakes via 99/290.

Plans are 3-5 rounds a week.  😁 The club has no waiting list and the tee sheets are empty in the afternoons!

I was hoping Cinco would be an option, but ARCIS is insanely expensive for a frequent golfer.

I heard they were selling off Cypress Lakes for development and working on the conditions and modifying Longwood's layout. Who knows, public courses in the Houston area outside of a handful are not well run.

Longwood was pretty much totally redesigned due to the selloff of land to Harris county for a flood relief area. While that happened, they also rebuilt the clubhouse, relocated the driving range and built a new teaching facility.  They’re shooting to reopen in December, but it’s gonna be a herculean effort to do so.

Cypress Lakes will continue to exist is my understanding.  Due to the major investment in Longwood, Cypress got the short stick on maintenance and improvement for now.

When I lived in Cinco they would give a local discount. I moved out a few years ago and went back a couple of weeks back and asked about the discount...they said they no longer offered that.
