Swing path and back pain

I recently started working on an in to out path with my swing and have seen some drastic improvement in ball striking and distance. However, my back has been hurting since implementing this new swing. I think it’s from hanging back. 
 

Looking for any tips to keep this new swing path and reducing back pain

A sound golf swing shouldn't hurt.  Your body is telling you something (that what you are doing is likely incorrect or at least part of it).  Find a good golf instructor to help you.

What Socrates said, but in addition, work on strengthening your core muscles if you aren't already.  As a fellow low back pain sufferer, doing that, along with making sure I was really warmed up as well as losing some weight, were what helped resolve my golf-related back pain.

I appreciate it. My core is pretty strong though. I do high intensity workouts along with weight training. My back is only sore after playing golf or going to the range. This is also pretty recent and seemed to coincide with changing my swing path.  As I mentioned in the original post, I believe I’m hanging back now and that’s causing strain.

I also have more pain/strain in my lower back when trying to hit draws with my longer clubs and there isn't much that can be done about it besides working on your fitness, flexibility and core strength.

 

Fades are just easier on the body because the open stance let's you rotate through the shot freely with less pressure on the spine. 

 

A lot of the long drive guys have started hitting fades with their left foot off the ground at impact because there is just too much pressure on the spine (and knees) for them to be swinging 150mph with their feet planted.

Nearly certain you’re creating the in to out path by dropping the rear shoulder.

This is great. Thank you. You definitely felt like I was going into serious right tilt

Being well into my 70's, pain is a way of life.  What I find is that when I am swinging well, hitting good shots and just feeling smooth, I experience a lot less pain than on the days that I just can not get in the groove.  A good swing just puts less strain on the body.

Post a swing. It's likely HOW you're creating that in to out that's creating issues

I have been working with a PT that focuses on golf. My issue was going into right side bend while simultaneously pushing from my right foot which over time strains my right QL. I'm working on getting my weight on my left side and going into lead hip IR earlier. This seems to be working.

What is lead hip IR?

IR stands for internal rotation. In the backswing the trail hip should go into internal rotation, and in the downswing the lead hip should go into internal rotation.

 

To access power from your glutes in the swing, your hip first needs to be in internal rotation. On the downswing, putting your lead hip into internal absorbs power and slows you down safely.
