THE Fairway club

Hi all.

I currently game a 3, 5 hybrid and irons all the way up.

When I need a safe shot off the tee it's my 3 hybrid which is decent enough or my mini driver for more distance.  It's a nice tool off the tee but that's it's only use so thinking of replacing with something more versatile.  I can't hit it off the deck well I don't think it's designed for it.  If it's fluffed in the rough I can catch it so I've been using 3 hybrid to get up the fairway (19 Degree).  I've noticed it's not the longest when I need to get up a fairway on a par 5 or when there is room for a ball to smash and roll.

I'm looking for the best option off the deck for forgiviness and distance.  I read many game their 5 wood for this shot as it's more forgiving and can get it up in the air - minimal distance loss to 3 wood.  Recently the heavenwood has caught my eye as a nice combination of shaft length and fairway wood head.

Mid handicapper average swing speed.  What's your best recommendation gents on a club to pull out when you wanna smack one up the fairway for possible eagle??

3 W, 5 W, Heavenwood??

For an average swing speed (90mph-100mph) I would go with the heavenwood. It will get you the height you need to land greens on par 5s. A 5w may be too low to hold a green for you, but would be a nice option off the tee. If you think of woods as approch clubs,  rather than distance clubs, then the heavenwood should be more appealing.

I'm going with the 5 wood in that situation.  Seems to be just the right loft for my swing speed to get the ball up and moving.

I'm a 10 handicap without a lot of speed (90mph max with driver).

I carry a BRNR 13.5 mini and find it pretty easy to get good results off the deck. Shocking to me really...I can almost get as much distance off the ground as from a tee.

My fairway wood is a Rogue Max D 3 which is either 16 or 16.5*. That's another club that is relatively easy to launch off the deck.

Again these results are surprising for me because I trade through gobs of fairway woods that didn't work for me off the deck.

There is a reason fairway woods have been around as long as golf has been played. THEY WORK! All you have top do is understand they take a long iron setup/swing and not a driver setup/swing. Once you figure that out, all you have to do is find the lofts that give you the distances you want and have fun.

Just a heads up, most of the FWs today have shafts that are too light. Try to stay 10-20g heavier than your driver shaft if you can. The heavier weight will help. I mention this because I see you have a 65 in your Ping (even though Ping FWs tend to "feel" on the heavy side anyway).

The hybrid is well designed to hit the ball of the deck. Try swinging down on it more.
