After AMG and NTC, what is bad casting now?

I'm a fully paid up NTC member, and it's helped my game a lot -

So when does casting go too far? Was it ever a real fault or were the instructors from a few years ago wrong?

I tend to play with a lot of duffers but I can't really picture any of them for whom classic casting is their main problem.

"When the trail elbow gets chicken wingy and when the shaft gets too vertical"

Isn't that coming over the top, severely out to in, and slightly different to casting, as in releasing the wrist hinge too early?

In other words, my question is more "is it possible to release the wrist hinge too early?"

Yes, it's possible. NTC can be overdone. That's the beauty of the golfswing. What works can be overdone...

I'm struggling to visualise it. I guess it looks flippy?

I remember Tiger talking about poor shots where he flips it, but he refers to that sort of shot going left, in other words clubface closing too quickly.

Does releasing the wrist hinge too early lead to a weak high shot?

It can.

I'll defer to monte if I misstate...

NTC is for the golfer who fires hips to start the downswing AND leaves the arms behind/up/late sequencing.

So, if your hips have turned hard and your arms are lagging, then ntc gives the feel of getting the arms coming down sooner and in better sequence.

Now, if ntc causes you to stall the hip turn or just not turn the hips at all then ntc could be working against you.

Fast hips and slow arms - ntc

Slow hips and fast arms - ntc probably bad

Fwiw - I do a version of ntc that I leaned in 2003. I am still plagued with overactive hips so the pump drill is still a core drill I do. Just allows me to sequence better.

Thing is, at least with NTC, you arent actually casting. Your angles are still being maintained if you're doing it properly.

What cocks and uncocks the hands is the right elbow folding and unfolding blended with the pivot.

When hammering a nail the elbow unfolds causing the hand to ulnar deviate snapping the business end of the hammer into the nail.

Just as detrimental as casting is unfolding the right arm too early in the downswing. The sequence is shoulder, arm and hand.

Except that I can unfold my elbow and keep my wrist completely cocked. They're independent.

All "tips" are welcome. Instruction not desired.
