TSR1 vs. TSR2 driver

Maybe this should be in the Avg Joe Swing Stiff and Below forum.

Say, for a 10* loft in both heads, and playing with the same shafts, and the heads weighted the same, can anyone weigh in on the differences between the two?

I looked at TSR1 before buying TSR2.  That club head is designed with a different sweet spot location, and OA weight specially for ultra-light 45-50g weight shafts.  I could be wrong, but thought once my Ventus Velo TR Blue 58g 5S was attached, it would need too much weight adjustment to reach my desired swing weight and player feel.

TSR1 can't be compared to TSR2.  Like comparing a Volkswagen to a GT3, they are designed with different purposes and users in mind.

Very good point.  I am playing a Ventus TR Red 5R shaft, and loving it, in both a TSR2 11* head (adjusted for more loft), and an old 910 D2 head.  The Ventus in the old 910 D2 goes higher and straighter.  So, I was thinking of the TSR1 12*, and hoping someone would pipe in.

I am reminded that Nelly Korda played a TSR1 before going to TaylorMade.

I could be wrong, but Korda more than likely played an ultralight in TSR1.  Titleist supported her equipment, so you never know.  Many women on tour play ultra-light sub 60 gram shafts.  All depends on the shaft you put in TSR1 12'.

FYI, but it's a bit of a misconception that the TSR1 is a more forgiving head than the TSR2, and that isn't true.  The TSR2 is the higher MOI head.  The TSR1 head is 8g lighter, and when combined with the much lighter stock shaft and grips options, is 40g lighter than a stock TSR2 offering.  It also plays 1/4" longer.  Everything about the stock TSR1 build is geared for adding swing speed to low and moderate swing speed golfers.  Not more forgiveness.

So taking a TSR1, adding more head weight, putting in a heavier shaft and grip combo is essentially just making a less forgiving TSR2.

Her WITB from December 2022 has her in a Diamana GT 60-gram shaft - so not dissimilar from 60 gram driver shafts in use by male Tour pros.

Flex and power are very different for tour players.  Never assume because a tour player carries a certain piece of equipment, it's the same as what you or I have.  Prototypes look just like the consumer version, yet internally very different.  I have some prototypes in storage.

Not an exact comparison, I had a TSi2 with a Patterson lightweight shaft it fractured during a swing and while I was waiting for reimbursement or replacement from club champion I decided to try the TSr1 with the MMT shaft.  It took a few swings to get a feel for the lightweight combo but

my results were a straighter and longer tee shot.  Once I got the Patterson shaft replaced I was so satisfied with the TSr1  never went back to the TSi2.  Swing speed is 92-93 mph for a driver

Nice to see someone with a swing speed in the 90's rocking a TSR1.

I've played both. Had the TSR2 when it came out and then swapped to the TSR1 when it was released. Both in 10*, both with the same AD-DI 6s. I didn't switch out the weight of the TSR1 but I did lighten the TSR2 as much as I could with an aftermarket weight. I prefer the 1 over the 2 because I like the shallower face. As a result, I've had better results because I make contact on the right spot on the face more consistently and I have more spin. I know the 2 is technically more forgiving by Titleist's statements but I the 2 didn't spin enough for me. For reference, I SS around 105-110 so technically the 1 isn't built for me but I prefer the lighter head weight in a driver and have been reducing my headweights on drivers since the TS3. (I played TS 2, 3, TSi2, TSr2, TSr1).
