I230 vs ZX5 forgiveness?

I’ve played i210’s for a while and have recently moved to i230’s. While the i230’s are forgiving for a players iron, on my off days I sometimes wish I had a little more forgiveness. I don’t like big irons but have wondered how the forgiveness of the ZX5 compares. Is it  enough to truly notice?

Both of those irons will be similar on strikes across the face.

 

the zx5s will go farther, both of solid strikes and mishits.  They are a players distance.

I’ve played both. I thought the zx5 was considerably more forgiving for my miss-hits.

Owned both - ZX5 all day and by a mile more forgiving. Want a great forgiving PING i series, get the i25. Currently gaming G430 and i25.

Agree with above posts. I've owned both and found the Ping i230 to be difficult to hit when I had my B-game. The ZX5 are definitely more forgiving.

The ZX5 has a much, much thicker sole and toe, both of which help with forgiveness.

Full sets of the i230 are being played on pro tours. Doubtful any pros are playing full sets of the ZX5. It’s a long iron replacement if it is making the bag. Tells you the ZX5 is the more forgiving iron for regular golfers. ZX7 is the favorite Srixon iron on tour. 

 

I would match up the ZX5 as more equivalent to the Ping G series or the i525.

Just got the zx5’s this week and already love them, but have only hit them on the range. My buddy has the i230’s with the same shaft and I’ve never really liked them, especially on mishits. I missed a few yesterday with the zx5’s and they were so much better than the misses with i230’s.

Owned both. ZX5- not close. That said, the i230s are amazing irons. If I was slightly better I’d game them. But I came back to my ZX5s…. (For now lol)

ZX5's are way more forgiving... But you will also get lower spin (possibly much lower) and being players distance you will probably find they are less consistent to their yrd number from centre strikes than the I230.

Personally, the originals. I’m coming from the T100’s which are great, but aren’t as forgiving as I need them to be. Hit balls today with the ZX5’s again and hit lots of good shots, but the misses truly shined. Misses still had great distance and were still on a good line. Bad swings are bad swings, but I found myself saying “ohhhh that was bad” and thinking the result was still very playable.

Originals myself, haven't hit the mk II's

The Zx7 is closer to the i230, zx5 is between the G430 and i230.
