Wilson D9Forged vs Old Ping Combo

I’m a sucker for all things “old Ping irons” and just this winter pieced a 5-p set together of G25/S58 combos. Had them all bent to Red and got the lofts dialed just abit at the combo to ensure gapping. They’ve only seen SIM time thus far (Google the current temps in Calgary) but it’s safe to say that I love this set up. G25 is auto pilot and S58 throw darts. Both ZZ65. Yardages are somewhat traditional for me (167 7i carry)
Heres where my love of PING old stuff may be in trouble. D9Forged with DG105S. These were new in the wrappers but on sale as demos up here last month so a set 5-G followed me home for $650 CAD. Unreal value. Didn’t even hit ‘em in the bay. Just took them to the till. Awesome iron buying skills. 😉

Finally got SIM time with them and just WOW. Even with zero fitting to L/L/L, they are a joy to hit balls with. Ball speed gains, great feel, a tad longer yardage wise (180 7i) and they look great both at address and in the bag. Spin is down abit but that’s expected and manageable. Well done Wilson. The 105 DG is a great shaft. DG stability in a lighter package.
I’m gonna have to do some serious soul searching this winter to see if old school vibes looses out to new school numbers. We shall see. Anyone else experienced D9Forged? Highly recommended. Old vs new pics for visual judgement.

I started last season with the 2019 T100s, changed to the Staff CB's and ended up with the D9 Forged. I just had them reshafted with a lighter graphite shaft and am loving the indoor numbers that I'm getting in Chicagoland. They feel great as well. You got a great deal and I'll be curious how you like them once it's warm enough for outside golf. Your only concern might be blinding yourself in the Canadian sunshine with all that chrome compared to your Ping set-up. Did you buy a couple of Staff wedges as well?

I have them in 5 and 6-iron combo’d with my PXG 0211ST blades. The ST are super forgiving for a blade and these slot right in. Love them. Wildly underrated.

Big existing thread here. But the short of it is, these are outstanding irons just like all previous WS Forged irons. Enjoy.

I did. 54 and 58. Just for kicks.
