Fort Worth area clubs

Hi all,

I am going to be moving with my family to Fort Worth later this year and am curious about the country club scene in town. I’ve seen the rankings / costs on AvidGolfer, which is a good starting place, but that is just one persons perspective. We are moving from another city in Texas and are members of a good club in town so I am comfortable with the process / costs associated with joining a club. We are open to multiple different areas to live in town and don’t mind driving 15 minutes to get to and from the club. I have two kids ages 5 and 8 and they both would get involved in golf, swimming, tennis, etc. I golf but am not a purist or anything like that. I mainly care about the course being in good condition and not worrying about having to fight for a tee time when I want to play. We’d plan on taking part in the social events and meals regularly at the club.

Does anyone have a good handle on the scene at River Crest, Shady Oaks, Colonial, Ridglea and Mira Vista?

I have played one Ridglea course in a scramble and it was nice. I think they have a men's only course and a family course. Very family-friendly club. Mira Vista I have never played but hear good things similar to Ridgelea.

Colonial is Colonial but I hear it is hard to get weekend tee times but I am not sure.

Shady Oaks is very exclusive, Ben Hogan's old club.

I’m a member of Mira vista. If you are under 40 they have an incredible deal for junior membership. The course is fantastic, a jewel of Fort Worth. Waiting list is considerably shorter than the others as well.

Those are all great but you're going to have to fight for tee times at all of them except for maybe shady oaks. Probably the worst scene for kids though.

I’ve wondered this as well. I live about 10 minutes from all Mira Vista, Colonial, and Ridglea. I haven’t bothered to look into joining somewhere since we moved to Ft Worth two years ago (too much work and remodeling the house to play much) but I’m starting to get back into the swing of playing and practicing regularly.

I’ve not played Mira Vista or Colonial but I’ve played both the Ridglea courses and enjoyed them both.
