Best Golf Destinations within a 7-8hr drive of Hagerstown, MD? (Single golfer)

Hey everyone,

 

I could use some input. I'm a single golfer (work schedule makes it practically impossible play regularly with anyone who doesn't work for my employer, and the ones I golf with that do work with me can't get the time away from families to take trips). I'm looking for the best Golf Destinations within 7-8 hours drive of Hagerstown, MD. Im planning on taking 3+4 golf trips a year and could use suggestions on new places to hit.

 

 

Im a 17 handicap currently, I've made trips to Myrtle (again in April) , Rehoboth, and Williamsburg (May). I can usually find a decent deal on lodging and courses. I try to stay around $60-90/course. I have the teetimegolfpass and use golfnow/tee off. It's usually just me for the trips my wife (doesn't golf) will join me one or 2 trips a year.

 

Trips are usually Monday-Saturday

 

We also like mini golf and disc golf so any cool/top rated courses in the area is a plus but not a must have. (But please let me know if there is lol)

Would think pinehurst area would have the most options. But I believe you have to stay on property to play the resort courses.

Cape Cod might be right above 8hr mark but that place in the summer is a golf haven. So many nice courses. Haven't been myself for a golf trip but have been wanting to make it to Williamsburg VA.

You could do Fredrick MD, there are some really nice courses there and that's pretty close.

 

Williamsburg is awesome, you'll totally enjoy that trip. If you're a drinker and like beer, make sure you go to Precarious Brewery. Best brewery in Williamsburg. 

 

Obviously Pinehurst. You can stay at the resort and play the Pinehurst courses or you can stay elsewhere and play the many other great courses in the area, Mid Pines, Southern Pines, Pine Needles, Tobacco Road.

 

Not sure exactly how far away it is, but French Lick could be another spot. I believe they have a few golf courses there, as well as a casino.

I actually grew up in Frederick so I've played most of those courses, but that's definitely a great golf area.

 

Pinehurst area is one I've been looking at, Id probably end up doing the mind pines, Southern pines, etc to avoid having to stay on property. But definitely one I'll be hitting sometime.

 

And French Lick is a hike at 10 hours, but somewhere I didn't think of and will have to look into.

Hoping to get out to Frederick this summer for a Friday/Saturday 54 hole adventure, but it might be tough. Have a four month old and I just booked a trip this week to Pinehurst for four nights over Labor Day weekend. Doing the Mid-Pines, Southern Pines, Tobacco Road courses.

 

If you have any questions about your trip to Williamsburg, let me know. Been making a yearly visit every year since 2020; changing it up this year.

 

I don't really know much of anything about French Lick. Heard of it and that's about it.
