Club storage

Recommended Posts

Looking for some ideas for club storage (mostly iron sets). I got too many, but there's only like one or two that I could see selling off, so I need something like a rack. It would have to be pretty deep though to hold something long like a 3-iron. I could build one from 2x4s...

But I'm wondering if there's something "better"? You start using 4x2 or 2x2 to make shelves and seems like it's a lot of wasted space...

I guess it would depend on where you're storing it, how you want it to look, and the amount of effort/engineering you want to put into it. I have my spare club storage in my room, so I bought one of those metal ones that can hold a couple bags off Amazon. I figure I can add some pvc pipes if I want some more storage for extra shafts or those clubs I bought for niche reasons or for testing. I also bought some fabric under bed storage containers off Amazon for those clubs I'll never get rid of but also never use.

Anyways, back to your question. It sounds like the collection might be fairly voluminous so building one with 2x4's might be the best option. If you wanted to, you could add lengths of pvc pipes for easy compartments. You could also paint it for aesthetics if you'd like.

Hi All

Just adding whatever my 02 cents are worth.

I have 9 sets of irons (shafted) and at least 7 sets with the heads pulled - in a box. Besides my gamer set and perhaps one I'm seeing if I'm going to replay it, I keep them all in a long plastic bag (the ones you get from a golf store after they're regripped) and in an iron box (as in what they are shipped in). I can fit 2/3 sets in one box.

Many years ago before I had this huge collection, I kept all my drivers and FW's in a large staff bag - in my spare bedroom.  When I went back to try an old club from the staff bag, I noticed that the grip went slick (TV or NDMC and I religiously clean my grips). It dawned on me that air, humidity levels, etc. affected the rubber. And I wasn't going to regrip and older club I want to take out for 'old time' sake. Same issue if you go to a golf store and feel the grips they have on display, ever notice how if a grip has been on display for months, they dry out?

After that, I keep everything in plastic. The irons in plastic and in the box. Woods and fairways (I've pulled the head on all my bonded ones), I unscrew the heads and the shafts are all in those long plastic bags. When I need to pull out an 'oldie' I know for sure the grip will be fine and if it's only for a round or 2, no need to regrip. Wash the grip after use and back in the plastic.

The negative is obvious. I don't get to see them in the beautiful display you have!! However, I need less room - I stack all the iron boxes up in the corner of my spare bedroom and the individual shafts are easily placed.

Beautiful collection BTW and I hope this helps a little.

🙂

These are not my clubs. I just posted a pic I found online while searching. Good point about humidity and dry rubber though. I didn't think of it and was going to keep the clubs in the garage. Probably a bad idea.

Actually, the humidity wouldn't be bad for the grips -but you'll get a new bunch of problems with rust / potential rust issues in the irons.
