I’ve always been a fan of classic saddle shoes on the golf course… and while I love the modern Nikes and retro jordans turned golf, I still prefer a soft spike and a firm leather shoe. The foot joy premieres are nice but am I the only one that misses the seemingly infinite colorways of the classics? Even myJoys seem to have very limited choices. I noticed eBay has a lot of new in box classics for not terribly much more than a pair of premiers. So I recently got a pair of New (vintage) Classic Tours for $80 to see how they hold up before spending $200+. Anyone have experience going down the route of buying 20+ year old golf shoes? Any tips for maintaining besides regular cleaning and shoe horns? I’m most worried about the rubber soles

I've purchased plenty over the years. I forget how many classics I have at the moment. I will say the leather/rubber bottom is what you need to be concerned with. I would HIGHLY recommend Larossa shoes to do a restoration. Bill and company have been doing it forever. Look them up on Instagram. You won't be disappointed. If you like the shoes and plan on having them a long time, it's worth the investment. I've had them take care of 6 or 7 pair.

In terms of style and elegance, you cannot do better that a good pair of FootJoy Classics. I wrote in a thread a while back that today's Millennial and Gen-Z kids refer to Classics as "old man shoes." I do not care, because the FJ Classics I have blow away every one else out of the water. I only wear these shoes when I get invited to play at an exclusive club, and I certainly wow the members with them. They are lookers.

As noted above, LaRossa Shoe is the best to service FootJoy golf shoes. I have done business with them and they are the world's best specializing in FootJoy Classics. Call Bill and tell them what you have in mind, and if they can do whatever repairs or alterations you need, send in the pair and he will do the best job for you.

Believe me, bro, if you want the best-looking shoes on the course, sport a nice pair of Classics.

If you get NOS Classics, make sure it’s the regular Classics or the Dry Premier. The Classics Tour have a rubber / composite sole that deteriorates. Having an expert like mentioned above work on them is wise, but I’d start with the regular or Dry Premier if possible.
