Retro Spec i530/ Power Spec BluePrint S Combo?

I have been contemplating a combo set-up to go along with my BluePrint S irons. I currently have BPS in 5-PW (PowerSpec): 5-25, 6-28, 7-31.5, 8-35.5, 9-40, W-44.5

 

I was thinking of adding an i530 4 iron in RetroSpec (4-20) and potentially a 5-iron in RetroSpec (5-24).

 

i530 4 (Retro): 20

i530 5 (Retro): 24 or BPS (Power): 25

BPS 6 (Power): 28

BPS 7 (Power): 31.5

BPS 8 (Power): 35.5

BPS 9 (Power): 40

BPS W (Power): 45

S159 G: 50

 

Thoughts on this setup? Comparing the i530 to the i230s, they really aren't that much thicker. Additionally, going RetroSpec in the i530s will reduce the offset to where I do not think you would be able to differentiate between the i230 and i530 at address.

 

If I am playing well at my home course, I don't hit many iron shots with my long irons, but when I do, I prefer all of the forgiveness and distance potential as possible. When I am hitting a majority of mid and short irons, I want all of the control. This seems to be a reasonable setup.

 

On the long end of the bag, I carry my Driver, 5W, and 19H that I mostly use out of the rough or on a tee.

Been also considering the i530 in the 4 iron, but have not had a chance to hit any of the new i530s yet. No one around me has any in stock to demo. Have you had a chance to hit them?

 

My guess is that the i530 would be longer, even all at the same loft as the BPS b/c the hollow body, so was considering just ordering a 4 iron in retro spec and getting bent another degree weak if needed. Would kind of be like a utility iron like build. Only issue I see is potential turf / bounce issues but will have to test to really see if any issues.

I've been thinking along the same lines but considering 5 and 6 in i530 (retro) and 7,8,9,PW in BPS (power spec). I'm dyslexic, this makes sense --right? Thoughts?

I’m entertaining the thought of switching the BPS 4i with a i530 5i Power Spec and built to play 4i length.

It feels weird typing this but what about just a Ping 430 Hybrid (4 & 5)

 

I’ve never ever been a hybrid guy but I recently swapped 4i for 4h and it’s been noticeably better. So much so I’m entertaining the 5h.  (I choke down a bit to take any extra distance off H compared to iron)

 

love Blueprint s and about to order 6-PW to see if they can beat out Titleist T100S

 

im 48 and a 4hc and feel 78 for even having/recommending hybrids. 😂🧑‍🦯

I've been having the same thoughts. I noticed Nelly Korda was playing a 5 hybrid and a 5 iron for a while and thought that made a lot of sense. She was going 5 iron, 5 hybrid, 7 wood, 3 wood. I really like the thought of that set up. Also looking to do that same setup with BPS.

Bringing this thread back to life. Wondering if anyone has tried and had any success with the retro spec 530 and power spec blueprint? I have heard the i230 is the spiniest of all 3 so was thinking the i530 in long irons would be a great combo set.

I'm reflecting on either going i530 in 5 iron only or 5/6 iron and all the rest in BPS

I would like to get as much forgiveness in my longest irons (I'm currently playing tr20v CB)

Ive contemplated this exact combo as I e gained speed and gotten my ball striking together and would mind something smaller with more spin in the shorter irons with long irons actually going back into the bag
