This article on how to get prepared to win at golf reminds me of the two most winning club champions at my course. I’ve played with and against them for decades and I used to be curious about their recipe for success. I found it many years ago even though it’s very hard to copy. They were born with that predisposition. It’s most of i5 in the article. It’s worth a read if you’re into or planning to get into tournament golf.

Great article. The art of being successful is realizing you're not always going to succeed and not letting failure stop you. It pretty much works in everything.

There aren't nearly enough posts like this on this forum. Everyone wants to find the latest swing thought/feel/move, but if you can't do the things this article describes when it counts, you probably won't have any hope of playing well.

Agreed, but most posters aren’t interested in playing well; they’re interested in swinging like a tour pro and hitting the ball a long way…and spinning their wedges.

 

They will tell you they’re interested in shooting lower scores, but their behavior clearly disputes that claim, and exposes their true desires.

I think there’s a primary improvement related to mechanics. But then if you start playing tournaments and you want to win you need a different approach to the game if you have a tested swing, even if it’s not perfect. 
 

I play golf in a competition oriented culture so most seasoned players try to groove their game for the weekend or regional tournaments so you need to learn to score without your A game, to hang in there waiting for your moment during the round and to clutch when it’s the time.  The most competitive players never talk about OTT, using the ground or the bounce, early extension and pulling the handle. They just whack the ball and o the fairway, caress it with their wedges and they stave you with the putter because they focus on performance.
