One Day Phoenix Advice

JLew

Recommended Posts

Going to be coming into Phoenix for a work event in mid-April but I will be coming in the day before and likely have the whole day to myself.

Debated playing 36 somewhere but seems like most of the places I would think to play with two courses are roughly $600 for the two rounds and that may be a long day being solo.  Don't care about getting paired up (would actually prefer it) but I think if I'm going 36 I would rather do it with buddies.

Instead I was thinking of finding somewhere nice that I could get in one round and spend some time practicing.  I land at 8:30a so pretty flexible.  Don't hate spending an hour or two practicing and playing early afternoon either.

Was thinking Southern Dunes or going up to Quintero but what are the local recommendations for this scenario?

Titleist TSR3 : Ventus TR Blue 6X
Taylormade Stealth Plus : Ventus Velocore Blue 7X
Taylormade SIM2 Rescue - AD-IZ 85X
Taylormade P770 4-PW : MCA MMT 125X
Taylormade MG 50/54/58 : MCA MMT 125X

If I had one day, I would play We Ko Pa Sagauro or Grayhawk Raptor.  Could easily spend a day at either.

I agree with both of those - as they have great practice facilities.  I would add Troon North, but do think the practice areas there are a slight notch below.

Yep and I'd probably lean toward Raptor. Great course, excellent range facilities, and great choice of restaurants either in the club house or over at Isabellas.

I like your Southern Dunes call. They have an awesome range, chipping area, etc. I could spend a few hours on that range and practice area for sure. I always find Southern Dunes a little quieter too, its a bit further away, so often times a little less busy.

Fairway: Ping G425 Max

I would second southern dunes for a single.  The vibe is very laid back for a single.  Easy/comfortable to get food or practice or get out and play.  Head out as soon as you can after landing and you may just find yourself playing 36.  If not they have a good chipping area by the range and a decent (not the best)  putting green by the clubhouse.  It will also likely be far less expensive.

Southern Dunes is the place to go for a single, If you are looking to practice after your round, you'll most likely be disappointed as the range normally closes around 12:30-1:00pm and it turned into a par 3 course.

Thanks everyone.  Those reasons were kind of why I was thinking Southern Dunes - being a single just playing casually (and coming off a long winter) it might be the best fit.

I'm thinking I would get out there around 10am and practice for 2-3 hours before I play so that shouldn't be a problem but that's a great heads up.

You won't be disappointed in the practice facility, I was there yesterday practicing, They just added lights for what I assume will be night golf on the range. They also added music on the range which is a nice addition. You can spend a day there for sure, The bar and restaurant has great food options.
