Mizuno Pro 245 vs Ping i230 vs Mizuno....

Have been to the local store to look at these 3 DAYS IN A ROW and can't make up my mind.  I've narrowed it down to the 245s and i230 on looks and reviews.  JPX 923 forged is a distant third, mainly due to the price drop.

I'm about 8HC that does better with more traditional looking irons with smaller profile and less offset.  I had an outdoor fitting last fall and am moving into SF i95 shafts with one of these heads.  I pick the ball pretty clean and take little to no divot...miss is obviously thin when I come out of the shot.  Played Apex 21 most of the last two seasons with Recoil SW's in them to help with arthritic.  7i about 150 yds.  245s would be bent 1 weak and the i230s would be in power spec.

Want to hear from you all on pros/cons of each based upon the info above.  I've read and watched reviews on both.   Thanks!

I had 225s and have hit i230 a few times. They are fairly different irons IMO. 245s are hot and long. Mizuno basically figured out how to make a really hot hollow body iron look and feel good. The 225-245s should be compared to p790s IMO. i230 won't perhaps feel quite as good but will be more consistent in its distance control, spin more and be a little shorter. If you pick the ball you'll have to keep in mind the Ping clubs have pretty high bounce. I'm about the same HC as you and would play the i230s for their consistency. I flew too many greens with the 225s and had to big of a gap between the set PW and my GW.

The 225s had a weird gap from 9i to 8i bc of tech, but I thought other than that their gapping was consistent as well as their performance.

From the looks of it, I'd suspect the 245s got a tech upgrade. So that looks nice.

I guess if you want looks, speed and forgiveness I'd consider the mizunos. If you want spin and precision, go i230.

I need help with speed and forgiveness.

The i230 is played on tour.

What are you playing now?

You can check out robot data for the i230 and the 225s (which I'd assume play very similar to the 245s) here: https://coolclubs.com/iron-reviews/

Might be helpful in examining how they perform on your normal strike misses. I would guess the 245s (even when you're talking bent weak vs power spec) would still go further and spin a little less. The other big difference would be the amount of bounce.

I hit these both last week. Liked the 245s better than the 230s. But if you want the consistency—though not necessarily the distance—of the 230, I think the 243 is vastly underrated. It is a huge improvement over the 223 in forgiveness and feel. Almost as forgiving as the 245 but super consistent for distance. Toe side in the 245 is crazy hot if that’s your miss.

I finally got my 245s out to the range.  I haven’t swung a club in 5 weeks (baby arrived), so I missed toe-side quite a bit.  I was shocked at the results.  If I didn’t feel the miss, I could have been fooled by the ball flight, which stayed high and pretty straight.

I am now in 245's but loved my 923 Forged while they were in the bag... honestly can't tell a difference really between the two.
