Mizuno Iron Standard Length

Looking at some Mizuno irons on 2nd Swing and I’m seeing 38-38.25” 5 irons. Just to confirm, is 37.75” standard length for a 5 iron? Ive always played standard spec’d Mizunos but never knew the actual measurements.

My new T100 5i and 620 MB 5i are traditional 38"

 

I heard TM uses Progressive length on some irons, which makes 5i 38.62.

Nowadays the majority of 5-irons are 38".

I just had a mizuno fitting. They list two lengths, one as their’s and the other as USGA/RA measurement. I held a 7 iron 243 next to a T100 7 iron. The 243 is 1/4” longer

I happened to be in a golf store and compared a 7-iron from JPX 923 Hot Metal (or maybe it was Hot Metal Pro?) to a T350 7-iron. The Mizuno was a tiny fraction longer but not sure it was a full 1/4", my calibrated eyeball says more like 1/8". But then again, the Mizuno iron was like a degree and a half flatter than the Titleist, which affects the length measurement slightly when you just set them side by side, soled on the floor.

To those differences, it could also be the length of the butt end of the grip. Some manufacturers measure length with the grip on, some without. I believe titleist measures without the grip. Some grips add 1/8", some add 1/4".

37.75 is standard for Mizuno and in my experience that is measured without the grip from end of shaft to sole of the heel. SS is probably measuring with the grip on and rounding it to get to 38 if I had to guess. The 38.25 is probably 1/2 inch over standard and rounded down.

I thought Mizuno did a 1/4" length change after the MP-18 series to become more inline with the modern iron specs.  An MP-18 7i would be 37.75" ungripped, while the MP-20 7i would be 38" ungripped.  I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure this is correct.

I read that somewhere...  OEMs are doing their damnedest to be known as long.  I am not sure if that's a good thing, not even when the ball ends up no going as far as they do today.
