Current Vokey grind similar to Spin Milled 60.07?

Recommended Posts

I currently play a Vokey Design Spin Milled 60.07 that my dad won in a contest ~15 years ago. I play almost every shot inside 50 yards open face, toe down, and very shallow unless I need to go really low. Otherwise, I just adjust ball position and stance to change the ball flight. I really like the grind, the leading edge sits very low and allows me to play from almost any lie. However, hundreds of rounds and 15 years mean it has almost no groves, does anyone know a similar grind in the current vokey lineup? I've tried the .08 M and .10 S grinds, found the M to be acceptable but the S looked and played terrible. I'm leaning towards the T grind but I can't find it in any of my local shops.

The M grind is only 1 degree more bounce. Or just look online and see if you can find another 60.07 in great shape.

I had one of those and loved it.

The M grind kind of replaced it for a few generations, but the sole (IMO) has gotten wider from SM6 onwards.

T grind might work for you, but I think it might be worth trying the L grind.

I played the 60.7 SM2 then the CC version.  The head was the same as the Titleist E Grind made for Ernie Els and modeled after the Cleveland 588 wedge he played prior.  It's a full sole wedge.  I don't think anything that Vokey has made since is extremely similar.  The S would be the closest but it has more bounce and trailing edge relief.  I loved the 60.07 but didn't love the S grind.  If you're not set of a Vokey, I'd look at the Cleveland RTX6 or the prior generation.  It has a similar shape, sole width and camber.

are you able to elaborate on this? What stock grind offering in the rtx would come close to the SM .07. Would another custom grind need to be added? If I recall, the SM .07 came with any sort of custom grind like the vokeys offer now.

Just to clarify, the 60.07 I'm referring to is the SM2 and 3 models.  Full sole, medium with 4 way camber.  These were also referred to as the E grind.  SM4 and 5 also had a 60.7 which was an s grind, flatter sole with trailing edge relief.  For the RTX, I would get the standard mid bounce.  While it's listed at 10* vs the 7* of the Vokey, they are very close in actual bounce, shape and size.  The bounce numbers on these wedges aren't actual measurements.  They are a 'plays' like opinion of the OEM.

another question - how does the low bounce K compare to the old 60.07 offering? Visually the soles look rather similar, and bounce is close. Is this an option?

The LBK has a wider sole with less bounce.  I don't think the playability is very similar.  The 60.07 is more of an all around wedge suitable for a variety of conditions.  The LBK is a great wedge for certain conditions and technique.  It's popular on tour because they see tight, firm turf around the greens but soft, deep sand in bunkers.  It's sole design allows you to play it square to slightly open on a tight lie pitch but when you get in the bunker you can lay it open to expose a large bounce area.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
