Titleist U505

Looking to purchase a Titleist u505 to replace my hybrid. How it is out of the rough? I use my hybrid a ton out of the rough but I'm starting to like the look of an iron much better than a hybrid. Does it perform well out of the rough?

Let me know your thoughts.

Driving irons/iron hybrids in general i find nowhere near as good out of the rough. They aren't as forgiving all over the face as a true hybrid and out of the rough your contact can be spotty

I have a U505 and a Srixon ZX. It's not even close out of the rough.

I cannot hit hybrid and that is why I am bagging the u505.

However, to be honest, it is not great out of the rough. (of course it might be only my shortage)

Funny, I was just looking at one of these yesterday. The 2021 version can be found in the $120-150 range in barely used condition. Tried a handful of test hits in the shop, and found it to be way more forgiving than the iCrossover or Pro Fli-Hi.

I have never found a hybrid that I'm all that comfortable with. At this point I pretty much only use my 19* hybrid for getting out of jail, hitting low punch shots out of the trees. I never pull it on the tee, and rarely from anywhere else. But I feel pretty comfortable with long irons. So I either step on my 5 iron or choke up on 5-wood if I'm in between distances.

I am thinking it would be a good tradeoff to get another tee option and have some confidence from the fairway, while giving up some performance from the rough. I'm sure it will still work for punching out of trees.

Just my 2 cents - Like you I much prefer iron look. I have a weird enjoyment of looking at a lil butterknife 2/3 iron...was a DI guy for a while and recently went hybrid. While I absolutely love DI, it proved too one-dimensional for me in that it only really produced the low piercing flight good for tee shots and layups. Hybrid much better for approach shots + out of rough while still being good off the tee. Maybe a few yd shorter due to less roll out, but I'm not pulling hybrid on the tee for distance's sake

I'm a +1.7 right now and play MP241s (one of the smaller blades on the market)---And i approve this message LOL

No one is making perfect contact out of the rough and hybrids are WAYYYYY better

The ongoing dilemma! I have u505, the 2021 version in 3 iron and the current version in 2UI. They’re great clubs, they compete in my bag with Srixon Mkii 2H and 4H.

In theory I should hit hybrids better right? In reality, if my 16 handicap swing is on I hit the utility at least as good and I prefer the look of the iron. With regard to rough, the hybrid wins. I tend to play the hybrids in winter and the utilities in summer, if that helps.
