Can I Add a Hotmelt Port Somewhere On This Fairway Wood Head?

Recommended Posts

I’ve got a Callaway Rogue ST Max 7 wood that I would like to add some hotmelt to. Problem is, there is no port or opening to the interior of the head to inject the melt. Is there any place on this head that I can drill into

to add a port?  I added a generic picture to give you an idea of what I’m looking at.  And that gold color piece does not seem to come out.

That is likely your best option, provided you mean take the gold piece out, drill the hotmelt hole between the two screw pieces. I’m sure that gold plate comes out with the right tools.

Have you removed the weight all the way to see if there might be a port under it?

If not, it might be safer to drill a hole somewhere between the screws under the weight.  That way no chance of messing up the threads - and you can get a bigger hole.

I wouldn't drill out the bottom of the screw hole as there's a chance you could damage the threads. Drill a 1/8" hole somewhere under the weight, provided you can get it out. Plug the hole with a black plastic piece (graphite tip plug is best). If you can't put one there, choose someplace in the metal part of the sole. Drilling through the graphite panels could compromise their strength.

For those who asked, the weight appears to just be part of the head. I have not been able to get it to come out and did some research online and others have seemed to run into the same result.

I know if I drill through the screw hole it’s going to make it too big to get the screw back in bc the hotmelt gun nozzle is bigger than the screw hole. I’m starting to think the only spots would be through the weight itself or right behind it in the metal. There don’t seem to be any other viable spots.

I believe I saw a tour photo where they drilled one in that black triangle between the Max and the 3 - and covered it with a small piece of lead tape. I guess you could do a black plug if you have them.

So I ended up drilling a hole in the sole between where the club number is and the loft is on the hosel. Not a lot of material there but it worked; center punched it first so the bit didn’t walk, drilled it out a little larger than the nozzle on my hot melt gun and then plugged it with a plastic piece that goes in the end of bore through shafts. Worked out very nicely.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
