Taylormade badge question

Hoping I have this under the right subtopic/category.

 

Just bought a set of Speedblade irons and though I don't see any instances (among old used sets online) of the bading or graphics coming off (ala old Callaway X or others), I am curious if anyone knows what would be behind the cavity graphics.

I just want them slightly toned down.  

 

If they were ok to remove - best process  

heat gun? acetone? stripper? etc

 

I'm also good with leaving well enough alone if that is far more advisable.

They're just cosmetic plates and could be removed. It's the epoxy underneath that would be a pain to remove.

Thanks for sharing this.  So it is just smooth under there like any most any cavity?

 

I guess I might should just start with 4iron knowing it might ruin it like I did with last clubs I fooled with. LOL

Don't use 4i often and can easily get by without it and likely sell them without it too.

I would try heating it with a hair dryer, and see if you can get it off without too much heat. I don't think they use epoxy to hold the badges on.

They're likely just attached with some sort of adhesive. You'll have to apply a little heat and then pry them off once the adhesive starts to loosen. I've used a butane micro torch when removing them on other models of irons. A couple words of caution:

 

First, you'll likely have to scrape out some adhesive and, depending on how well you do that, you may leave scratches in the back of the irons. This part of the head likely isn't finished since it was meant to be covered by the badge, so there's no guarantee they'll look better after you're done. The two sets I've done looked better with the badges than without.

 

Second, removing the badges could lead to the irons feeling (aka sounding) a little worse. All of the design elements work together to tune the vibrations and audible feedback from impact, including what seem like purely cosmetic badges. Something to consider.
