what players are better off

with an arm/ hands dominated swing

with all this talk about more rotary/ passive hand swings, which can be very effective, have the instructors out there found students that wouldn't benefit from moving to this type of swing.

im not really talking about a student is unable to change swings, but more that it would be detrimental for them to do so.

if anyone has run into this could you explain what traits the student had that lead to this decision and why?

i kinda figured this topic might get a little discussions since it goes hand in hand with the passive release vs active release thread. maybe i should have just asked in there :/

yeah i get your point, i just haven't seen my specific question addressed before, i've seen the differences they bring such as consistency vs distant vs best under pressure etc. but i haven't seen such things as body type or course conditions or physical limitations brought up before. that was the direction i was intending to go on this one.

My dad is 79 years old and has a keg under his belly and I don't think he could rotate enough to make a rotary swing effective.

I have found that people who are heading towards the back end o being and 'ENDOMORPH' body type which tends to be much bigger across the whole shape of their body right from legs and arms to stomach and back.......this build struggles with the rotation of the swing due to their physical size inhibiting them.....for this type of player I have tended to get a smaller pivot backswing with a good set of the club so that they have formed a lever and then got them to release the lever of the bent right arm and cocked wrist by straightening the right arm and the lever with less body clearance and a bit more Moe Norman/Trevino style impact and finish with a lot less body rotation....This type of swing can help the bigger guys and gets them hitting it really solid.....with this type of build the player is normally pretty strong but less supple and due to this can still hit it a long way but gets good consistency that would not be there due to not being able to rotate and create the room properly due to their size.
