Shopping For a GPS

Need some INFO/REVIEWS

i have decided to go with a GPS device rather than a range finder. I need some help from guys who have them. I am also thinking of getting a SDIO GPS Antenna for my At&t Tilt and using that for a gps? If i had to choose one now it would probably be the Skygolf 2.5, but i need some opinions/help.

iGolf Neo $150...$35 subscription for a year...then cancel once you have all the courses you need. You won't find anything cheaper or more reliable over the long haul.

My vote is for the Golf Guru. Currently priced at $249 and NO subscription fee. Has all the features you could want including Green Zense, "The Guru Green Zense Smart Green allows you to move the pin icon to any location on the green using the Guru joystick. As the pin icon is moved, the Guru instantly displays the distance from your position to the location of the pin icon and the near and far points on the green on the line between your location and the pin icon."

 

You can turn on or off scoring and stats (FIR, GIR, putts). The marking function gives a "running yardage" as you walk; if you map a course yourself you also map the outline of the green so the GreenZense works with those courses as well. It can pick up up to 16 satellites, more than any other GPS out there, and is WAAS enabled. I have found it more accurate than the SG2 I have used for the last 4-5 years. It is ready to go within a minute after turning it on while the SG2 takes about 10-15 minutes and often, for me, requires a reset before it will synch up with the satellites. There is even a software update in test which will allow you to edit downloaded courses so you can personalize the course to your liking, removing some targets or adding others. Finally, their customer service for me, both pre-sale and post sale (getting courses mapped) has been outstanding! The company is located in Austin, TX and I believe this is a US made product as well.

 

I have not tested or "pushed" battery life. They claim 14-16 hours and I have had no problem going two rounds plus practice time (I "mapped" our driving range).

SG5 or if can't afford (fairly discounted on EB) the SG2.5.

Subscription cost is what a dozen balls? These new series are deadly accurate and very nice, huge improvement over SG3/4

Skycaddie 2.5. I had the Bushnell Pinseeker 1500 and recently got the 2.5 and absolutely love it. Small and compact, wear it like a cell phone. This things reall works well on the course. Highly recommend it.

ok i think the SG 2.5 is what i am going with....the cheapest i can find them for is $235 shipped...anybody got them cheaper before i commit?

The only down side to a sky caddy is what you can do with the courses and the yearly subscription. You may one to look at the igolf as its probably cheaper long term and the older models around that price.

I went with the igolf Caddie II....really hard to beat for $174 shipped from Walmart....i will give a review when it gets in
