Laser is not working as well...

Less able to pick up flag.

I have a Bushnell Pinseeker 1500 TE and when I first got it, it was amazing. Towards the end of the first season, I started having troubles picking up the flags. I think it may be due to some sort of 'dirt" (for lack of a better word) on the lens. I've tried cleaning it with rubbing alcohol and a q-tip but I can still see spots, which look like water spots, on the lens.

Any ideas?

I don't think there has been any water or condensation that would get "inside" the unit as I live in a dry climate and haven't used it in the rain that I remember.

I'm stumped.

I have dust inside mine even though it is supposed to be weather proof. I have problems only when lazing into the sun. The dust specks still bug me though.

I don't know about this particular model, but the "box" you see when you look through it is independent of the laser system. At the factory they align the box with where the laser it pointing, but if the unit bumped (dropped?) the alignment can get thrown off. Mine works the best if the flag is at the bottom right corner of the "box".

 

I don't know if there's any way to realign it, but if I'm having trouble I just experiment with it to find the right spot and once I know where it is it doesn't move until the next time I drop it. It works fine this way, the biggest problem is explaining where you have to aim to people who want to try it out.

 

A test which works for me is to use something skinny at 50 yards or so (like the flag stick, not the flag) and I scan back an forth across it to get the point where it's most sensitive in the horizontal plane. Then I flip it 90deg and repeat to find the vertical plane. The point where those 2 meet is where the laser is actually pointed.

 

If your hands aren't steady, you may need to set the rangefinder on something while you doing this to really accurately find the proper point.

I initially tried the new batteries... not better unfortunately. I may try to find the 'calibrated point' and other than that, I may call Bushnell also.

I'm having just that problem. Used to be when the battery ran low, but now I can barely get a reading even with fresh batteries (usually I can't get a reading).

 

Mine is in the mail to go back to Bushnell for repair/replacement....
