Pitch hozle shots

Today I was playing and hit three S****s on some pitches. I could not figure out what was causing this. Obviously the hozle is hitting the ball, but does someone have a drill that might help me with this? This is new and hasn't happened as much in the past to me.

As embarassing as it is to admit, I've had the same problem lately. I haven't $hanked one in over a year but have hit a half dozen with wedge shots the last few rouns. Yesterday it got bad. I hoseled a 9i on the 17th hole then on a short par 3 to finish I hoseled a PW and a SW, cold $hanks. Also looking for the answer, so don't feel bad, lol.

I did this as well the last 2 times I played and have never done it on the course before well turns out I was yanking my head up on the downswing trying to watch the ball just figured it out today in the backyard it was also causing me to chunk my money low check skipper shots.

Could be that I was pulling my head like you were, I also bladed more than I normally do.

Yep I was doing that as well and it is hard to admit or figure it out on the course as the anger and or embarrassment seems to short circuit your technical intuition that leaves you in a funk of disgust but hitting a shot in the back yard focusing on the ball leaving the clubface and one looking up not focused on the ball is truly the proof in the pudding. I have decided to invest in a tazer and taz myself everytime I hit one of those blasted hosel rockets.

Seems like the only time I have a s--- problem is when I'm practicing 3/4 shots wedge shots and have hit 30 or so. It doesn't happen every time but when it does, I might as well go home. If I switch to practicing shorter shots I have no problems. I seldom S---- on the course. Very frustrating as I don't know what causes this and I enjoy practicing. Anyone have experience and/ or advice with this.

I had this happen to me in the middle of a lesson with full shots. My pro said just to take a breather and come back, alot of the time it's all mental.

I'm no expert but I would say 90% of the time it is also taking an early peek on the 3/4 shots as well that or coming across the ball from the outside with an open face, but I bet if the next time it happens stop and ask yourself did I see the club make contact with the ball the answer will be no hence the early peek syndrome the hardest flaw in golf to completely cure IMHO.

Yes, headlifting is one cause that happens to me when I hit the S****s, but I find also standing too close to it gets my hands caught causing the dirty buggas.

When I battled this problem (and it still sneaks in every once in a while) it was due to 1) peeking 2) getting to far inside on my backswing 3) and being too quick...jerky..not smooth. Also my hands were not staying in front of the ball. I basically had the yips chipping instead of putting. Seek some professional assistance from someone you trust...it will be money well spent.

I went to the range and had a few... I think I got it figured out though. I hoseled a couple 7i's near the end and then swung with just my left, drove the club into the ground 3times, very steep. Hit 3 perfect 7's, 5 perfect GW's and then flagged 6 SW's from 100. It was like flipping a switch. I must have been getting too flat/shallow in my downswing.

Well from someone who can hit a hosel rocket with the best of them I can tell you what causes them for me. My weight getting to far towards my toes during my swing and standing too far from the ball. When you hit a hosel rocket your reaction is to want to stand further from the ball which actually can make the problem worse because it forces your weight further onto your toes. If I stand up to the ball and make sure that my weight gets to the inside of my right heel at the top I am good to go.

Back to the drawing board for me. I $hanked 2 SW's today on 16 and 17 to let my buddy tie me and then go 1up. Fortunately I dropped the longest putt of my life to take 18 for the tie. These things are killing me. I can't even remember the last time I'd hit one off the hosel and I've done it like 10 times in the last 3weeks. I going to order a fing F2 wedge if this keeps up, lol.

I was having a problem shanking short pitch shots a while back. It was so bad, I even shanked a couple of long chips. For me, the root of it was taking the club way too far inside on the backswing. When you come back through, your clubhead will get thrown too far out and you'll hit the hosel. So watch the path you take the club back on. Also, make sure you pivot smoothly through your downswing. Stay connected. The more confidence you lose, the worse your stroke gets.

Same for me. Problem crops up when practicing chips/pitches for a long time.

 

I think my muscles/brain gets tired and lazy and I dont bring the club back on plane (too far inside) or get too wristy trying to hit a high soft flop.

 

If it happens I hit some drivers or long irons and the problem goes away.
