I had a swing epiphany. How to sustain?

After 2-3 months of very solid iron play, I hit a snag 3 weeks ago. I was scooping my irons and no matter what I did I couldn't stop the short&rights. Was smacking balls at the range in attempt to figure out how to fix and then it hit me. I started concentrating on rolling my hands during impact and it was like magic. Distance back to where it should be and was able to swing easy draws with every club. Driver distance also increased. The main swing thought was swinging more with the trailing hand and make sure to roll it over thru impact.

Played a practice round this morning and hit 14 greens. I average 7-8 recently.

I am concerned that this "roll the hands" swing thought may develop into a nasty hook or even worse push on days when my timing is off. SO I am wondering if A. Is this a good swingthought to carry on the course. and B. Will it help me stay a solid iron striker which I've always been except for a few spats with certain swingflaws that I shant speak of lest they decide to make a return.

If you can "time it" then there is no problem.........gotta' find YOUR way and maybe that's it.......only time will tell.......sounds like it's worth a good look......

Naw, not a finesse......hehehehe.......ya' gotta' find what works for YOU........and I'm a REALIST nowadays and I KNOW that MOST will NOT do what it takes to truly build a good golf swing/game.......so when the average player finds something, ANYthing, that works.........I say go for it and see if it can be SUSTAINED over the long haul.......most "epiphanys" won't, but, occasionally one will......Like I always say, "occasionally when prospecting in the dirt with a golf club you'll find some gold"...... :D

This is usually how it works with me, too. I go to the range and hit a bunch of balls. As soon as I hit one dead flush I pause for a minute and try to remember what I felt during that swing... and attempt to repeat it. Over the last few weeks my thoughts/feelings have changed from: "Low and slow starting the backswing" to "try and hit the ball with the butt end of the club" to "keep my back facing the target as long as possible" to "feel like I'm holding a platter with my right hand at the top"... they all work for a few swings... that's why I'm a 13 hcp.

Do you have before and after video comparison? I've often found swing "thoughts" were just that, and had very little to do with reality.

If it works, then try and stick with it. Just remember that the type of timing used to manipulate the hands will require more maintenance and precision, than using the core. Some have been successful with it, but it may come and go. If you are willing to learn to square it with the body, it will be easier to maintain, but may not be as natural for you, and may take a handful of bad rounds and lots of ingraning to get it, and you'll probably need a pro to show you how. I still cannot ingrain the feeling, and revert back to using my hands. I know it is going to bite me some day, and if I didn't have several days a week to practice, I'm not sure I could maintain it.

Well I played this morning and shot 84 which is a few strokes better than usual. I don't have a video camera and have never taken a lesson. I plan on seeing a pro soon though. I remember now an article from the Oct. '06 Golf Magazine on the "Instant Power Move". I think this is what I'm kind of doing and so far it's working. Every drive was straight and long, Where as I usually either push or duck-hook 3-4 per round.

I'm just hoping I can sustain this good ball striking. As long as it's working I'll stay with it and when flaws creep back in I'll spend more hours on the range and try to figure out something else.

i came to this, as my swing changes were just not working, and worked on some other things and am now just absolutely killing it better than ever, sometimes you just gotta try something different, or have different feelings to work on at the range, but basically once i get on the course im just going for the target and not caring how it gets there
