Grafalloy Epic Flex Question

Does anyone know the how true the flex is in an Epic shaft? I have a SS of 105 and wondering if a stiff will be too weak or and X too much? Maybe tip a stiff?

 

Anyone using this shaft that can help..........

I love this shaft! ss of 102-104 and I play the stiff, maybe not the longest shaft I have played but probably the streightest. Highly recommend. I installed with 1/2 inch tipping.

Why do I read several times that this isn't one of the longest shafts?

Ordered Sumo2 Tour Square with Epic stiff, my swing speed is 102-104.

 

This club was at least 10 to 15 yards shorter than my Sumo 5000 with NV 75.

 

I would agree the Epic isn't long, but it is straight with a low ball flight.

 

By the way, this shaft feels like no other graphite shaft I have ever played. You don't feel it flex and it has a crisp smack to it. For me I didn't like it, I found myself trying to hard to "load" this shaft and it began to mess up my tempo. For the record, this is my problem, the shaft did well even though it didn't fell like it was loading, but it was still to short for my liking.

I for one love it. My swing speed is around 104 - 106 and I have the 68 x in my driver. I shortened it to 44.5 inchs long and I've found it is where I normally expect to see the ball in the fairway with the added advantage...that the ball is in the fairway instead of in the rough.

 

If you are a good player and feel that a stiff is no problem but you could only use an X flex on the range, then I suggest go for the X flex as the control with the shaft is great.

 

OR go get fitted..easier said then done...I know.

I think that an S would be best as the Epic really resists being over-powered and probably plays a little stiffer to flex than other current shafts on the market and you are smack in the middle of the two flexes. I play an X but I've hit a stiff and had no trouble with it (I have a swing speed in the high one teens), it just goes a little higher than the X.

 

As to it not being the longest shaft, I have no idea why but I assume that the loading profile and the fact that it's fairly low spin means that for some people it just falls out of the sky.

Do not tip the S if you get it. The S is good for SS's to 115 mph easy. I have seen it in action with my club. Distances were 325 at 115 mph. I swing under 100 all the time and it is high launch low spin. I use a 9.5 degree head that measures 9.2 degrees of loft. I launch it at 16 degrees with 2500 rpm spin. I get 240 out of the same club.

 

Here is the killer. Untipped, my 44.5" driver measures 277 CPM. You know that is x stiff and more. I have a 265 (should be Tour Stiff) cpm shaft (Whup-n-Shaft) and head combo that plays WAY stiffer. Can not turn it over at all. Every shot is fade or push right. Shaft will not react to my tempo.

 

The EPIC plays straight and long. High, low spin launches. You need a smooth tempo. You cannot be jerky with this shaft. The only way to know is to try it.

I would suggest the stiff as well. I had the T75 version, it is a good compromise between the stiff and an x.

 

As another noted, this shaft doesn't feel like your loading it fully even though you are. If you have ever played steel in a fairway or driver, the feel is similiar, atleast to me it was. Very stable shafts for their weight and thin walls.

I play a regular flex and have a swing speed of 105. I play both a stiff flex and a regular flex in the 68 gram version and I feel I load the regular a little better than the still flex. This shaft definitely plays a little stiffer than most stiffs I've played and it is one great shaft
