igolf Caddies II vs Golfguru

I purchased the GPScaddie II a few months back-really like the unit but what sold me (at the time) was the fact that I owned the course once it was downloaded-as I understand most of the other units(skycaddie for one) require that you keep a current subscription or the course data becomes non-functional at some point after the subscription lapses.

I might have seriously considered the GolfGuru had I found it available at the time and had it had of the courses I play available (which it did not)-I like the stats tracking and probably would have bought it for that feature alone.

I'm not much of a rangefinder fan-I have used a buddies Bushnell and find that it takes me longer to get a reading than just looking at the F/C/B distances on my GPS. There are arguments for and against both-I'm not against either, I just prefer the GPS for ease of use, personalizability (made that term up right there ;) ), and the distances for blind shots.

The Golf Guru is more expensive, but its a better unit (green zense feature, marking feature that tells you distance from your start point in continuous real time). These are pretty important features that even the most casual user of a GPS unit will appreciate.

Also, there are no membership fees with the Golf Guru. If you were to buy an iGolf unit you would have to buy at least one year course subscription to download any course, so that lessens the price difference. If the Guru cost $100 more I would understand going with a cheaper unit, but the price difference isn't that much and I think worth it.

I am also torn between the two for the same reason dtbear -- price. The Guru has score keeping while the iGolf has more courses that you can download.

The Guru so far has the advantage, but only slightly.

Thanks wei c25. I'm 99% sure I'm going to purchase the Guru.

Has anybody purchased the extended warranty for the Guru?

I did not. With their standard warranty being one year versus a typical 90 days for others I did not think it necessary. I also owned a SkyGolf SG2 for the last 4+ years and had a problem with it initially, which they fixed, and it still works fine ever since. With most electronics today, if there is going to be a problem it usually is fairly early in the life cycle. If you make it past the initial "burn in" period it will generally last a while.

I went with the Guru because it has the most features. I requested 19 courses when I bought mine and they now have loaded 16 of them in less than 2 months. Anything that I needed right away they loaded in less than a week. Best customer service in the business and well worth the extra money.
